OU Health is seeking an Interventional Radiology Technologist for the VIR Lab (PRN). The role supports physicians in image-guided procedures, ensuring sterility, patient comfort, and accurate data transfer.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in interventional radiology or invasive cardiology, ARRT/CCI certifications, and strong teamwork. This PRN position offers on-site work in Oklahoma City with OU Health benefits and on-call coverage as needed.

Qualifications

Interventional Radiology Technologist - VIR Lab - PRN

Department: Interventional Radiology

General Description:

The Interventional Technologist PRN assists Physicians with minimally invasive, image-guided procedures to diagnose, monitor and treat simple to complex conditions, defects and/or diseases without surgery. This position is intended for those with experience in Interventional Radiology or Invasive Cardiology who are able to independently provide exceptional patient care while working towards expertise in the discipline.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes advanced skill set to assist Providers in performing minimally invasive, image-guided procedures including but not limited to cardiac catheterization, structural heart interventions, electrophysiology, angiography, device implantation, biopsies, thrombectomy, embolization, and pain management.
  • Utilizes a variety of highly specialized radiologic equipment and techniques to perform a diverse range of diagnostic, interventional and/or invasive procedures in accordance with established scope of practice guidelines.
  • Ensures procedures are performed safely and with the highest quality standards, maintaining a consistent focus on patientcentric care.
  • Assists in preparing patients for procedures and providing comfort.
  • Acts as a scrub tech while assisting Providers during procedures
  • Maintains a strict sterile field adhering to safety protocols.
  • Responds to inquiries from patients and family members, provides clear information regarding diagnostic testing and expected result timelines.
  • Collaborates with team members across OU Health including Providers to provide exceptional patient care.
  • Conducts post-testing quality reviews to confirm that all required elements are completed, documented and align with departmental and accreditation standards.
  • Transfers images and data to the appropriate electronic health system, enters technical data/findings and prepares study for reporting by physician.
  • Performs quality control checks, cleaning, disinfecting and other equipment maintenance tasks per manufacturer instructions for use and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Assists with quality assurance, audits and performance improvement tasks as requested.
  • Provides on-call clinical coverage per departmental protocols outside regularly scheduled duty hours on weekdays, weekends and holidays as assigned.
  • Supports OU Health's academic partnerships by actively engaging in teaching of students in the radiologic program.
  • Serves as a departmental preceptor to provide instruction and mentorship to new or less experienced team members. Assists with onboarding of new team members.
General Responsibilities:
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: A graduate of post-secondary educational program in a health science (includes, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, or paramedic/EMT) as defined by ARRT or CCI.

Completion of JRCERT accredited Military Educational Program is accepted in lieu of other educational requirements.

Experience: At least 3 years of experience in interventional radiography or invasive cardiology required.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.

One of the following certifications required at hire: ARRT(RT)(VI), ARRT(RT)(CI), RCES issued by CCI or RCIS issued by CCI

  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skill in applying principles of medical imaging, positioning of patients and medical ethics.
  • Applies advanced knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology associated with specialty imaging procedures
  • Advanced ability and skill to apply theory, practices and techniques to perform, post-process, analyze and annotate study data or procedure documentation.
  • Applies knowledge of sterile fields consistently ensuring a safe environment for the patient
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and patient populations served
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to apply HIPAA guidelines and standards.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete clinical or non-clinical work assignments
  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm in stressful situations
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team and communicate effectively with others.
  • Displays consistency and dependability by reporting to work as scheduled.
