Interventional Radiology Technologist - PRN (float midtown/downtown campus)

UMMC Midtown Campus, one of two campuses of the University of Maryland Medical Center, has a long history of working to keep our community healthy and has grown to become a trusted teaching hospital for medical and surgical care in Baltimore City.

Located in Baltimore’s cultural center near the historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, UMMC Midtown Campus is a 180-bed, community teaching hospital focusing on managing chronic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, pulmonary conditions, and infectious diseases.

Under indirect supervision, the Radiographer performs quality diagnostic radiographic, interventional radiology, and cardiac catheter procedures, adhering to radiation protection/safety principles. Coordinates daily work schedules and activities of the lab based on departmental needs. Operates sophisticated radiographic, fluoroscopic, portable, and interventional imaging equipment according to protocols. Prepares and administers oral and IV contrast media as per protocol.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures to ensure quality and continuity of patient care, completing all assignments to support reduced length of stay initiatives.
  • Verifies patient identity and reviews requisitions for consistency with clinical diagnosis and demographic data, recording pertinent information.
  • Assesses patient condition, ensures safety through proper radiation practices and positioning, and organizes patient care priorities, including providing critical care and following physician orders.
  • Inserts, maintains, and discontinues IV access devices like Heparin locks, administers IV contrast media, and monitors vital signs, recognizing contraindications.
  • Sets up and maintains sterile trays and accessories according to scheduled procedures.
  • Processes patients through the Meditech system before shift end to ensure proper documentation and billing, inputting all relevant charges.
  • Participates in expense control initiatives and prepares patients for sterile procedures following hospital protocols.
  • Marks and identifies radiographs and digital images properly.
  • Reports safety hazards or equipment malfunctions immediately to supervisors.
  • Collaborates with IR nurses and physicians to monitor patient conditions during procedures, recognizing basic cardiac rhythms and utilizing the Mac Lab when needed.
  • Maintains proper stocking and cleanliness of interventional rooms.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with departmental staff, hospital personnel, patients, families, physicians, and visitors.
  • Demonstrates technical competence and developmental assessment skills for age-specific populations, using equipment safely and properly, as outlined in the competency plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors or managers.
  • Supports and complies with UMMC Midtown Campus' mission, vision, values, and policies.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology School
  • Registered by ARRT and licensed by Maryland
  • Successful completion of basic cardiac rhythm recognition course
  • Minimum one year of radiology experience and six months of interventional experience (training available for the right candidate)

Compensation

  • Pay Range: $58.095 - $71.005
  • Eligible for shift differential
