Job summary

Geisinger is seeking an Interventional Radiology Technologist to support advanced imaging procedures in a clinical setting. You will ensure patient identification, prepare patients, and optimize imaging protocols while maintaining strict safety standards.

The role requires ARRT-R and advanced ARRT credentials, ACLS and PALS certifications, and active engagement in education and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

  • ACLS and PALS certifications are required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • ARRT-R certification is required with advanced ARRT credentials (VI/CI/CV).
  • RCIS certification is part of the required cardiology qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures correct patient identification and exam prep with confidentiality.
  • Uses appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes factors for ALARA and patient safety.
  • Prepares and administers medications via vascular access as prescribed.
  • Evaluates images for positioning and quality; ensures data archival/transfer.
  • Educates and monitors students and other health care providers.
  • Assists or performs diagnostic, fluoroscopic, or interventional procedures as prescribed.
  • Maintains intra-arterial access as prescribed.
  • Assists in table positioning during image production.
  • Participates in physiological monitoring of patients.
  • Performs manual hemostasis during and after procedures.
  • Operates QC for hemodynamic devices, ECG monitors, and related equipment.
  • Initiates ACLS protocols as required for cardiac roles.
  • Performs non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures as prescribed.
  • Maintains and removes peripherally inserted central catheters.
  • Maintains sterile technique for procedures.
  • Records and analyzes hemodynamic/electrogram data.
  • Demonstrates commitment to department and organizational priorities.
  • Participates in modality quality or process improvement activities.

Job description

  • Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
  • Preparing and/or administering, as applicable, medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable.
  • Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers.
  • Assists or performs diagnostic, fluoroscopic, or interventional procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Maintains intra-arterial access as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Panning of the procedure table during image production.
  • Participates in physiological monitoring of patients.
  • Performing manual hemostasis during and after the procedure.
  • Operates and ensures the quality control of hemodynamic recording devices, electrocardiogram monitoring equipment/cardiac stimulator, oxygen consumption equipment, and blood analysis equipment.
  • Initiates ACLS protocols as required for cardiac roles.
  • Performs non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Maintains and removes peripherally inserted central catheters as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Practice of sterile technique preparing for procedure including scrubbing, applying surgical gown, gloving, draping and setup of instrument table.
  • Records, monitors, and assesses hemodynamic/electrogram data collected during procedures.
  • Demonstrates commitment to department and organizational priorities.
  • Fully proficient in all assigned routine and complex job duties.
  • Participates in modality quality or process improvement activities.

Required Certifications or Licensures:
Interventional Radiology:
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT-R) and advanced certification in ARRT-VI, ARRT-CI, or ARRT-CV is required.
Cardiology:
  • Graduate from an accredited cardiovascular technology specialty training program or Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) and advanced certification of Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (Geisinger Medical Center campus only) within 6 months of date of hire.
