Job summary

Veterans Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the Interventional Radiology Section within the Central Virginia VA Health Care System. The role provides supervised medical and procedural support for short stay unit and IR outpatients.

The PA will perform histories and exams, obtain informed consent, order tests, and develop competency in IR procedures under direct supervision.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant and Certification
• PANCE completion and Licensure required
• Full and unrestricted license to practice in the United States (or DC)

Responsibilities

• The Interventional Radiology Physician Assistant will provide supervised medical and procedural support for short stay unit patients and outpatients under the IR service
• Participate in evaluation, treatment planning, procedural care, patient education, and coordination of care
• Performs and documents initial and interim patient histories and physical examinations
• Assists in obtaining informed consent for procedures from patients or designated decision makers
• Orders routine laboratory, radiologic, EKG, and diagnostic testing under supervision
• Develops competency in basic IR procedures under direct supervision (e.g., paracentesis, thoracentesis, image-guided aspiration, catheter removals, lumbar puncture, tube exchanges)
• Completes post-procedure documentation and orders, coordinates scheduling with IR team
• Maintains clinical documentation and supports quality assurance and data collection
