Job summary

ACCEL Schools is seeking an Intervention Specialist for South Columbus Preparatory Academy- Southfield in Columbus, OH. The role focuses on planning and supporting educational, behavioral, and social needs for students eligible for special education, with emphasis on inclusion and collaborative teaching models.

Responsibilities include diagnostic and functional assessments, IEP facilitation, behavior plans, and ongoing family communication.

Qualifications

  • Current state license holder.
  • Knowledge of State Standards and Common Core Standards.
  • Experience in a full room inclusion or Co-Teaching in a Resource Room model.
  • High level of comfort in growth-focused coaching with frequent observations and progress monitoring.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word/Outlook).
  • Excellent organization and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to pass FBI/BCI background checks.
  • Experience in a multi-cultural setting preferred.

  • Support student achievement and culture while meeting state achievement goals.
  • Utilize research-based best practices in daily planning and instruction.
  • Incorporate culturally responsive teaching in daily lessons and interactions with families and colleagues.
  • Serve as advisor to a designated group of students and communicate progress to families.
  • Participate in planning and executing non-instructional activities such as social events and field trips.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Intervention Specialist plans for and supports the educational, behavioral, and social needs of the entire school community with a focus on student eligible for special education and related services. About the Opportunity:

Responsibilities of an Intervention Specialist include to -

  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students, assisting in classroom intervention strategies, modifying general education curricular as necessary, and assisting the student with regular class assignments.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments for instruction
  • Conduct functional behavior assessments
  • Write and implement behavior improvement plans
  • Facilitate IEP Meetings and write IEP goals and objectives
  • Relentlessly work to meet all goals related to student achievement and culture as well as state specific achievement goals.
  • Utilize research-based best practices in daily planning and instruction.
  • Integrate culturally responsive teaching practices into daily lessons and interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Serve as advisor for a designated set of students
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding the academic and social-emotional growth of their child.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of non-instructional activities such as social events and field trips
  • Perform other duties as assigned
About You:
  • Current state license holder
  • Knowledge of State Standards and Common Core Standards
  • Experience working in a full room inclusion type model or Co-Teaching in a Resource Room model
  • High level of comfort working in a growth-focused coaching environment based on frequent observations, debriefs, action planning, and progress monitoring.
  • High quality written and verbal communication skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word and Outlook
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team
  • Ability to pass federal and state criminal background checks (FBI/BCI)
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural setting preferred

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $44,000-55,000. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
