Job summary

Wichita Public Schools is seeking an Interpreter Services staff member to support deaf and hard of hearing students and staff. The role emphasizes facilitating signed and spoken communication in classrooms, meetings, and events to ensure equitable access to instruction and information.

The interpreter will work under supervision, maintain strict confidentiality, and participate in ongoing in-service trainings and IEP processes to support student outcomes.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must pass the Para PD Now Assessment.
• Certification: EIPA (min 4.0) or RID or KQAS.
• Some positions require knowledge of sign language modalities.
• Maintains confidentiality and professional conduct.

Responsibilities

• Assess room setups to support deaf and hard of hearing students.
• Attend in-services/workshops for ongoing certification and information.
• Submit Interpreting Services reports for IEPs.
• Participate in IEP meetings to input on communication needs.
• Collaborate with teachers and IEP teams to support student progress.
• Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information.
• Facilitate all communication in educational settings to ensure equal access.
• Review materials to clarify unfamiliar terms for students.
• Support student self-advocacy and independence.
• Attend staff meetings and parent conferences as required.
