Interpreter / Translator – Japanese Bilingual

Location: Steele, AL

Compensation: $65,000–$75,000 annually

Employment Type: Full-time, Non-Exempt, Onsite

Japanese language ability required for Japanese-English interpretation and translation in business, technical, and manufacturing settings.

Position Summary

Provide Japanese-English interpretation and translation for meetings, production-floor communication, conference calls, technical documentation, business reports, and confidential materials. Professional Japanese and English proficiency is required to accurately communicate business and technical information. The role also provides administrative and practical support to expatriate employees and their families.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide simultaneous, consecutive, and whispering interpretation.
• Interpret Japanese-English communication during meetings, conference calls, and production-floor activities.
• Interpret monthly profit, productivity, quality improvement, and other business reports for Japan-based leadership.
• Translate technical documents, emails, reports, and confidential materials between Japanese and English.
• Maintain confidentiality and complete assignments within required deadlines.
• Provide medical interpretation and appointment coordination for expatriate employees and families.
• Assist expatriates with driver’s licenses, Social Security applications, healthcare appointments, housing, and related matters.
• Follow plant safety requirements and use required PPE in manufacturing areas.
• Work overtime or adjust schedules on short notice when necessary.

Qualifications

Required:

• Professional Japanese and English proficiency for business, technical, and production-related interpretation and translation.
• Associate degree.
• Minimum 2 years of interpretation and translation experience.
• Experience with simultaneous and consecutive interpretation.
• Ability to accurately translate technical and confidential materials.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Ability to work overtime on short notice when required.
• Must be currently authorized to work in the United States. No visa sponsorship is available for this role.

Preferred:

• Manufacturing or production-floor interpretation experience.
• Experience interpreting technical, business, or management-level discussions.
