JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Interpreter - Special Education

Reports to: Director of Equity and Community Engagement

Contract: Temporary Services Agreement

Salary: $35 per hour

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Interpreter will provide consecutive/simultaneous interpretation and limited translation services for the Special Education meetings on an as needed basis.

The interpreter will be responsible for ensuring their availability including but not limited to:

• Responding to phone, text and/or email messages in a timely fashion
• Confirming assignments
• Completing and submitting time sheets
• Attend necessary interpreter trainings

QUALIFICATIONS:

The candidate will be fluent in English and a target language. Proficiency in public speaking and written communication to express and exchange ideas. Hold at least have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Good communication skills and cultural knowledge of the community are essential qualities in the successful candidate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; and subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members is required. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
