Job Description

Memorial Sloan Kettering is seeking an Interpreter to support communication between Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients, their families, and our care and research teams. The role involves ensuring clear, compassionate, and accurate communication throughout the patient’s care journey, while contributing to departmental projects, research, programs, and broader language access initiatives.

Role Overview

1. Interpret and transmit complex medical information accurately and understandably, including consent forms, diagnoses, procedures, discharge plans, and other patient-related information.
2. Assess understanding and clarify messages as needed.
3. Interpret in simultaneous and consecutive modalities, observing cultural norms.
4. Resolve most issues independently; escalate complex cases to leadership.
5. Manage schedule and communicate any changes promptly.
6. Promote collaborative relationships across the organization to ensure seamless care and support research and community services.

Key Qualifications

• 2-4 years of equivalent experience.
• National certification in medical interpreting preferred but not required.

Core Skills

Bilingual in English and Mandarin.

Additional Information

• Location: 633rd Ave (Hybrid)
• Schedule: Part-time; Monday to Friday, 18.75 hours/week. Hybrid.
• Report to: Senior Program Manager, Language Initiatives.
