A Brief Overview

Responsible for relaying accurate medical information and facilitating the successful delivery of patient services to diverse language segments in compliance with all office, clinic and hospital policies and procedures, particularly relating to patient confidentiality and informed consent. Responsible for written translations required in patient encounters including, but not limited to, forms, care instructions, medication schedules, patient letters, or other identified documents and patient materials. Work with special projects as assigned.

What you will do

  • Serves as the facilitator to successfully deliver language patient services to linguistically diverse consumers and functions as a cultural and linguistic resource to both patients and providers to contribute to successful outcomes.
  • Provides a high level of customer service with a positive approach and performs duties in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation.
  • Familiarity and ability to work with diverse cultural/social-economic backgrounds as well as general knowledge of cultural backgrounds.
  • Provides written translations in patient encounters, including completion of forms, medical instructions, and medication schedules; administrative translations such as letters to patients and other materials.
  • Supports office operations by answering the phone, checking voice mails and following up as needed.
  • Taking and scheduling interpreter requests, verifying and scheduling future appointments and documenting patient encounters.
  • Facilitates special projects as assigned, including but not limited to, on-the-job training and mentoring of interpreter internships.
  • Travel to various facilities may be required.

Essential Qualifications

The individual must be able to work the hours specified. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds. These requirements and those listed above are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • Some College Interpreter Training
  • Some College Health Science
  • Experience in a healthcare setting as a medical interpreter with strong medical vocabulary
