For over 25 years, National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has specialized in connecting experienced workers (ages 55+) with full-time and part-time job opportunities that support the critical missions of Federal Agencies across the United States.

NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an “at-will” relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

PLEASE NOTE: An “Enrollee” is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An “Enrollee” is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.

Duties:

Coordinate operations that include a visitor center; tours of the Jeff Smith Parlor and Moore house; Junior Ranger activities for the Disney cruises; participation in community events; implementation of education programs; and roving critical visitor areas. Monitor the Interpretation and Education Division budget, including ONPS, Alaska Geographic donation, and project funds. Work with the park Superintendent and Budget Technician to ensure effective use of available funds. Support the park’s digital media services including NPS App, website, and social media content and visitor information requests.

  1. Represent the Interpretation and Education division in the park by communicating and coordinating with the park Superintendent and Leadership Team. 5%
  2. Serve as the park’s Public Information Officer, working with the Regional Public Affairs Officer and WASO staff to issue news releases. 5%
  3. Monitor the Interpretation and Education Division budget, including ONPS, Alaska Geographic donation, and project funds. Work with the park Superintendent and Budget Technician to ensure effective use of available funds. 10%
  4. Coordinate and mentor park’s Interpretation Team. 30%
  5. Coordinate operations that include a visitor center; tours of the Jeff Smith Parlor and Moore house; Jr Ranger activities for the Disney cruises; participation in community events; implementation of education programs; and roving critical visitor areas. 20%
  6. Assist with the Alaska Geographic partnership, Alaska Geographic employees, and the retail operation. Submit direct support requests for Aid-to-NPS funds. 5%
  7. Evaluate effectiveness of AK GEO retail in the VC at the end of June with staff and partner employees. 5%
  8. Coordinate partnerships with friends groups and local community through events and meeting attendance. 5%
  9. Support the park’s digital media services including NPS App, website, and social media content and visitor information requests. 5%
  10. Support compliance with current and emerging Executive and Secretarial Orders; respond to data calls as needed. Prepare for the transition to another Acting Program Manager in August. 10%
Qualifications:

BA/BS Degree with minimum additional experience of 1 year(s) in Education requirements and specialized experience must meet requirement of the Park Ranger (I) GS –0025 – 11.

  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat
Other:
  • Overnight travel: For travel to and from duty station. No other overnight travel is expected.
  • Air travel anticipated: For travel to and from duty station
  • Health and Safety Considerations: SLOW training to deal with difficult visitor situations, Review of emergency exits, fire extinguishers, safe area meeting locations. This will be conducted in house by the permanent staff.
  • Physical requirements: This is an office job. May be exposed to outdoor elements when walking to tour locations within town or driving to Dyea or Chilkoot trail head. Most walking is along board walks in town. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
