Job summary

The Career Center at the University of North Texas seeks an Internship Coordinator to organize and manage internship programs for assigned colleges. You will work with faculty and staff to provide internship support, ensure credit, and grow our Career Treks Job Shadowing and internship offerings across campus.

You will engage employers, deliver student programming, and partner with academic counselors to align internships with degree requirements and campus initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and two years of student services or related experience.
  • Excellent public speaking skills with training workshop experience.
  • Ability to lead and mentor student populations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships with internship coordinators and recruiters to ensure UNT students receive internships and complete tasks.
  • Provide programming (workshops/trainings) and guide students through internship processes.
  • Collaborate with Department Chairs and faculty to develop a formal internship program aligned with UNT's academic structure.
  • Deliver marketing to students about internships and grow internship participation on campus.
  • Oversee assessment and data collection of internships and report results to campus.
  • Assist in outreach and management of Career Treks Job Shadowing.

Department Summary

The UNT Career Center is responsible for the career development and employment of all UNT students and alumni. It has responsibility for all Career Readiness, Coaching, and Education, Student Employment, Internships, and Post-Graduate Employment of UNT students. The Career Center operates as a centralized department with a decentralized approach and sustains collaborative partnerships with academic colleges, student affairs departments, employers, and alumni. Our vision is to empower students and alumni to identify and achieve individual goals for career success. Our mission is to design and deliver high-quality career services to UNT students and alumni through collaboration with campus, local and global partnerships.

Position Overview

The Career Center Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire an Internship Coordinator to join our team. Position is responsible for organizing and managing internship programs and events for assigned colleges; provide internship programming to students interested in working as an intern, and work with faculty and staff in the colleges to provide support for their internship programs within their colleges; work with academic counselors on internship procedures, ensure that student internships are meeting departmental requirements and receiving credit for their internship; work with Internship Team to grow and expand Career Treks Job Shadowing program, work with students through classes, student organizations and individually to promote the services as they seek to make internship decisions; reach out to companies that recruit students from their assigned colleges and strengthen/start a recruiting relationship with companies; ensure that all activities of the office are assessed and reported.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and two years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent public speaking skills with experience in conducting training workshops. Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations. Experience in networking across departments and programs. Ability to communicate and work with the population. Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects. Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills.

Job Duties
  • Manage relationships with corporate and nonprofit internship coordinators/recruiters to insure that UNT students are being considered for internships with their companies and that the students are completing tasks associated with their internship experiences.
  • Provide programming (workshops/trainings) and offer guidance to students to help them navigate the processes of the internship program for their department.
  • Work directly with Department Chairs and faculty in assigned Colleges to develop/manage a formal internship program that fits with the academic structure of UNT and ensures some level of standardization related to their internship programs.
  • Deliver marketing to students and the campus related to student internship involvement, ensuring that we have a large number of students doing internship and job shadowing on campus.
  • Manage the assessment and data collection of internships for the assigned colleges, and deliver reports to the campus community related to the results of their assigned colleges internship programs.
  • Assist in outreach and management of Career Treks Job Shadowing program.
