Job summary

The Safety Construction Internship at Stacy Witbeck in Alameda places you alongside project safety professionals and managers to ensure adherence to safety policies. You will support field activities and assist in the office as needed.

You will participate in safety trainings, help review JHAs and subcontractor safety programs, and maintain safety records, gaining hands-on experience in safety management on nationwide projects.

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in safety, construction mgmt, or civil engineering.
  • Coursework in Accident Investigation, Risk Management/Control, or Liability.
  • OSHA 10 and/or 30 certification obtained or in progress.
  • Ability to identify exposures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Proficient with MS Office and strong communication.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing CREW360 safety initiative under the direction of the Project Safety Manager.
  • Identify and report unsafe practices with imminent danger alerts.
  • Coordinate safety duties in safety committees and toolbox talks.
  • Support Project Safety Orientation for new hires.
  • Participate in safety trainings such as Fall Protection and Silica Awareness.
  • Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance.
  • Review JHAs and pre-task planning for hazards.
  • Promote safe work practices per regulations.
  • Assist in pre-construction meetings and site inspections.
  • Maintain safety records and incident logs.
  • Complete incident investigations with mentor.
  • Background check and drug screening required.

Internship: Safety Construction

Compensation: Starting at $25 Per Hour

Description

The Safety Intern works closely with construction safety professionals and project management staff to ensure that the project is adhering to company safety policies and processes. The Intern will also assist in day-to-day field activities as well as assignments in the office.

Location: Various locations nationwide

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in implementation of CREW360, the company’s safety initiative under the direction of the Project Safety Manager
  • Assist project staff in identifying and reporting any violation or unsafe practice where there is imminent danger to life or property.
  • Assist in coordination of safety duties in such areas as safety committees, pre-planning meetings and safety/tool box meetings with craft employees.
  • Assist with the Project Safety Orientation for new hires.
  • Participate in training at safety/tool box meetings and orientations such as Fall Protection, Silica Awareness, Hazard Communication, Heat Illness Prevention etc.
  • Assist in review of subcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance with our company or Joint Venture (JV) policies.
  • Review current Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and pre-task planning documents to ensure crews are adequately addressing the hazards and controls for their scope of work and daily activities.
  • Assist in promoting safe work practices and conditions in accordance with all Federal, State and Local regulations and owner/contractual requirements.
  • Assist Project Safety Manager and Superintendent in pre-construction meetings and conduct research as needed.
  • Assist in conducting jobsite and work area inspections with the Project Safety Manager or Superintendent.
  • Manage incoming safety observations of the work/actions being completed on the job.
  • Assist in maintaining safety records, including pre-task planning documents, JHAs, safety training, safety/tool box meetings, Safety Data Sheets, and incident reports and logs.
  • Complete incident investigations with their mentor.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Pursuit of a bachelor’s degree of Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Management, and/or Civil Engineering or equivalent from a four-year college
  • Ideally completed or enrolled in courses such as Accident Investigation, Risk Management/Control and/or Liability
  • Obtained or in the pursuit of their OSHA 10 and/or 30Basic knowledge of safety/environmental principals and techniques
  • Capable of identifying known potential exposures and recommending corrective actions.
  • Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Strong communication skills and not shy in communicating with both office and craft employees. Public speaking experience is preferred.
