Firefly is currently seeking aPAIDInternfor our Residential program. The Residential Intern is responsible for teaching sound social, academic, and independent living skills to youth placed in the shelter care facility through the Teaching Family Model in order to promote positive behavior change based on each youth’s individualized behavior management plan. This opportunity is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Social Work, Psychology, or other Human Services-related fields, with the potential for continued employment after July.

This internship will have, or has the potential to have direct contact, on a regular and continuing basis, with children who are under the direct supervision of the agency.

Responsibilities
Childcare (80%)
  • Courteouslycommunicateandcollaboratewithallshelterstaff andsupervisors in order to achieve healthy day-to-day care of children.
  • Patientlyestablishandmaintainmeaningfulpositiverelationships with children as outlined in each behavior care plan using the Teaching Family Model (TFM).
  • Maintain adaily,structuredroutinethat includesextra-curricular activities in and outside of the shelter to promote healthy habits based on children’s developmental needs.
  • Conscientiously model and teach youth various life skills such as appropriate socialinteraction,self-care,includingpersonalhygiene,andself-maintenance, including household chores and food preparation.
  • Accurately follow de-escalation procedures in response to crises by identifying andimplementingappropriateverbaltechniquesfromtheTFMorprescribed in an individualized behavior support plan; attempt to reduce or eliminate the need for physical restraint.
Administration (20%)
  • Thoroughly complete all required paperwork on time in accordance with TFM requirements.
  • Meticulously maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the facility in compliance with regulations.
Requirements
