Job summary

Vertical Mechanical Group is seeking an Intern to support project engineers and managers on commercial HVAC and plumbing projects. This in-office internship is based at VMG's Reston, VA headquarters with site visits across the DMV area.

You will learn project planning, drawings, RFIs, submittals, and closeout activities while gaining real-world construction experience. The role focuses on coordination, documentation, and teamwork, with mentorship from experienced PMs and field staff.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or recently completed degree in Construction Management or Engineering.
• Interest in commercial construction, HVAC or mechanical systems.
• Basic ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work effectively in a team.
• Willingness to learn and gain hands-on experience.
• Previous construction experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with project planning, scheduling and coordination.
• Support Project Managers and Project Engineers with day-to-day activities.
• Gain exposure to HVAC and plumbing drawings, specs, and docs.
• Assist with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement and records.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Willingness to learn, ask questions, take initiative, and gain hands-on industry experience.

Location

This is an in-office internship based at VMG's headquarters in Reston, VA, with opportunities to visit project sites throughout the DMV area.

Compensation & Internship Experience

Pay: $25.00 per hour

This paid internship is designed to provide practical, hands-on experience within the mechanical construction industry.
