Job summary

DeZURIK, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern to assist in design, development, testing, and documentation of mechanical products. You will work under experienced engineers, using CAD tools to model and document parts and assemblies.

The role includes hands-on lab support, participation in product and process improvements, and collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. May include part-time academic-year work with approx.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Completion of at least two years of engineering coursework preferred.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering theories and practices.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools, SolidWorks preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with product development from concept to refinement.
  • Prepare and maintain drawings, BOMs, reports, and test docs.
  • Use CAD and analysis tools to create models and calculations.
  • Support lab testing, data collection, and reporting results.
  • Partner with manufacturing and quality teams on improvements.
  • Follow procedures and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Perform other engineering tasks as directed.

Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Mechanical Engineer Intern supports the design, development, testing, and improvement of mechanical products, components, and systems. This role provides hands-on engineering experience through participation in product development, engineering analysis, testing, manufacturing support, and documentation activities under the direct guidance of experienced engineers.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
  • Assist with product development activities including concept generation, prototype development, testing, validation, and design refinement.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), reports, and test documentation.
  • Utilize CAD and engineering analysis tools to create models, drawings, calculations, and design documentation.
  • Support laboratory activities, including test setup, execution, data collection, and reporting of results.
  • Assist manufacturing and operations teams by supporting product and process improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and other departments on assigned tasks and projects.
  • Follow established engineering procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards while maintaining accurate and complete documentation.
  • Perform other engineering-related assignments as directed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of at least two years of engineering coursework is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering theories, principles, and practices.
  • Familiarity with CAD software for modeling, drafting, and design documentation; SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Basic ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, and specifications.
  • Exposure to engineering analysis tools such as FEA, CFD, or engineering calculations is beneficial.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
WORK HOURS
  • Approximately 40 hours per week are expected, generally during normal business hours.
  • Part-time employment during the academic year may be available.
EMPLOYMENT DATES
  • Approximately May through July, with final dates determined by business needs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Physical demands are typical of an office position including extended periods of sitting, extensive use of a personal computer and telephone.
  • Position requires movement around the facilities.
  • Occasional handling of material and components.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal manufacturing and office environment. When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron and boots). Must have the ability to support extended business hours to meet customer business needs.
