Job summary

ForKids is seeking an enthusiastic Visual Studies/Art History intern for The Landmark Center in Chesapeake, VA. This spring/fall program offers flexible hours (Mon-Fri) and a 150-hour commitment over 13 weeks.

Qualified undergraduates at Old Dominion University may earn $15 per hour through the Mellon Foundation Humanities Internship Studio. The internship focuses on hands-on instruction, design assistance, and collaboration on public artwork projects.

Qualifications

• Must be an enrolled undergraduate visual studies and/or art history student at Old Dominion University.
• Ability to communicate instructions and model skills using art mediums.
• Ability to work in a trauma-informed space.

Responsibilities

• Offer hands-on instruction to students and gauge skill application.
• Assist with digital design work on selected applications.
• Select and prepare large quantities of materials for projects.
• Collaborate in design, execution, and installation of public artwork.
• Create student assessments and prepare monthly data uploads.
• Attend and participate in company education meetings and trainings.
• Scale up and paint large-scale collaborative works when possible.
• Organize, sort, and sanitize materials and classroom/workshop space.
• Ensure safety and maintain classroom management practices.

Description

Position Overview–We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated intern with knowledge and skills related to visual studies and art history.

Location:ForKids–The Landmark Center, 1001 Poindexter St., Chesapeake, VA 23324

Duration:Spring 2026 (Jan.–April) / Fall 2026 (Aug. –Nov.)

Hours:Flexible work schedule within hours of operation (Monday–Friday 11:00am–7:00pm). Interns will commit from 9 to 11 hours per week for 13 weeks for a total of 150 hours.

$15 per hour for qualified majors through the Mellon Foundation Humanities Internship Studio at Old Dominion University(ODU Students only)

Intern must be an enrolled undergraduate visual studies and/or art history student at Old Dominion University

Key Responsibilities

• Offer hands-on instruction to students and gauge application of skills using materials
• Assist with digital design work on selected applications
• Select and prepare large quantities of materials including paint, canvas, and
• substrate boards for projects
• Collaborate in design, execution, and installation of artwork for the public
• Create student assessments and prep for monthly data uploads
• Attend and participate in company education meetings and trainings
• Scale up and paint large scale collaborative works when possible
• Organize, sort, and sanitize materials and classroom/workshop space

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate instructions and model skills using various art mediums
• Ability to work with students in a trauma-informed space
• Valid driver’s license with no more than three minor moving violations in the pastthree years
