Job Description

Position Summary: LTYC is seeking a passionate and creative Part‑Time Visual Arts Instructor to teach visual arts to elementary and middle school students (grades K–8). The ideal candidate will inspire students through hands‑on art projects, help them develop foundational art skills, and foster an appreciation for artistic expression across cultures and mediums. This is an independent contractor position and not an employee role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver engaging, age‑appropriate art lessons aligned with educational standards and school curriculum.
  • Introduce students to a variety of artistic techniques and mediums (e.g., drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, mixed media).
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages creativity and self‑expression.
  • Integrate art history and cultural appreciation into lessons to broaden students' understanding of global artistic traditions.
  • Prepare students’ artwork for displays, exhibits, and school events.
  • Manage classroom materials and maintain a clean, organized art space.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate art projects with other subjects or school‑wide themes.
  • Provide feedback and informal assessments to students and parents as needed.
  • Attend occasional staff meetings and professional development sessions.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Visual Arts, Art Education, or a related field, Teaching Certification or has completed at least 30 college credits
  • At least 3 years of prior experience teaching art to children, ideally in an elementary or middle school setting.
  • Strong classroom management skills and a student‑centered teaching approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt lessons for different age groups and learning styles.
  • Passion for the arts and a commitment to nurturing creativity in young learners.

Additional Requirements:

  • Independent Contractor Agreement: Must be signed upon acceptance.
  • References: Three professional references required, including at least one from a previous position working with children.
  • Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to and from school site(s).
  • Certifications: Valid CPR & First Aid certification.
  • Proof of educational background and professional certifications (if applicable).
  • Health Clearance: A letter from a physician confirming candidate is in good health, free from communicable diseases (including TB).
  • Background Check: Must provide a current background check from CJIS (including state, federal, and childcare clearance).
