Target Candidate: We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated intern; with knowledge and skills in education, social work, or related field. Experience working with students is a priority.
Location(s): The Landmark Center, Chesapeake & The Birdsong Center, Suffolk
Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday 9a-5p & 2-3 Days of evening programming 5p-7p
Intern Responsibilities and Learning Opportunities:
- Assist with transportation, activity preparation, tutoring and children’s supervision during Beyond the Bell afterschool programming
- Assist with completion of participant progress notes and other related documentation
- Assist with researching and identifying available community resources and making appropriate referrals
- Assist Education Liaisons as needed
- Attend staff meetings, services team meetings, and monthly trainings when possible
- Basic clerical tasks (filing, copying, file preparation) as instructed by task supervisor
- Orientation and overview of agency, including mission and vision with CEO or COO, services and education overviews, crisis response overview and customer service training
- Weekly supervision with master’s level field instructor in coordination with task supervisor
- Training regarding ForKids educational procedures, unique needs of homeless students, community resources and rights available via McKinney Vento Act
- Observation of housing crisis hotline activities
Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with children and adults.
- Knowledge of basic Math, English and Science skills.
- Valid driver’s license with no more than three minor moving violations and/or accidents combined within the last 3 years, and no major moving violations in the past three years
