Job summary

Boston University seeks an International Student Advisor for Admissions to manage immigration processing for new international students and to ensure compliance with F-1 and J-1 regulations. You will issue documents, create student profiles, and guide admitted students through visa processes.

You will report to the Assistant Director of Admissions and Student Services, reviewing materials, coordinating with departments, and advising on arrival in the US.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in intercultural communication, international relations, or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in foreign student or scholar advising.
• Knowledge of SEVIS and student immigration regulations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to manage immigration cases.
• Superior communication skills to educate students and staff on nonimmigrant regulations.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate admission materials to determine immigration sponsorship strategy for new international students.
• Review immigration and financial documents and update SEVIS records.
• Process complete files, track check-in status, and communicate with departments.
• Issue immigration documents and advise students on visa applications.
• Serve as Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer for SEVIS.
• Provide immigration advice and assistance to students during arrival and summer term.
• Coordinate with admissions offices on immigration processing for new admits.
