Job summary

Children’s Health in Dallas is seeking a Sr. Paramedic to work in the Emergency Department and Internal Transport. The role operates under a physician and medical director, handling BLS and ALS cases, patient transfers, and support for nursing and respiratory staff.

You will also assist in teaching Children’s CPR programs to families before discharge. The position is on-site in Dallas with day shifts (11:00–23:00).

Qualifications

  • BLS and/or ALS care experience required.
  • Texas EMT-P license or Texas LP licensure required.
  • ACLS, BLS, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications required within 180 days.

Responsibilities

Summary

The Sr. Paramedic operating in the Emergency Department will work under the delegation and direct supervision of a licensed physician using approved clinical skills for patients who are classified in the BLS or ALS category. The Sr. Paramedic will provide care to patients under the direction of the medical director to perform functions that support and supplement the health care team. The Sr. Paramedic will assist in managing the customer service experience of the patient and their families during patient care activities. The Sr. Paramedic operating in the Internal Transport/ACS setting will work as a clinical resource performing internal patient transfers and providing early recognition of decompensation of BLS and ALS patients during extended off-unit procedures. The Sr. Paramedic will work alone or in small teams to maintain the level of care received on the unit, including any existing medication infusions or airway equipment, and responding appropriately to emergencies with BLS. The Sr. Paramedic will be required to supplement the care of nursing and respiratory care staff during routine clinical duties and will work under nursing delegation when outside the Emergency Department. The Sr. Paramedic in the Internal Transport department will also assist in teaching Children's CPR program to families prior to discharge. In all settings, the Sr. Paramedic will assist in managing the customer service experience of the patient and their families.

Responsibilities
  • Perform BLS and advanced skills during patient care including, but not limited to: initiation of PIV catheters; priming IV fluids (excluding blood products); naso/oral/pharyngeal suctioning and insertion of NG/OG tubes.
  • Assist in emergency situations by initiating BLS and ALS life saving skills, assisting with chest compressions.
  • Perform documentation of patient care in the electronic medical record per department and hospital guidelines.
  • Administer approved medications per physician order or protocol.
  • Apply family and patient centered care to all job aspects and support family during all phases of care.
Work Experience
  • At least 2 years job related experience required
  • At least 1 year experience in acute care/emergency setting preferred
  • At least 1 year pediatric experience preferred
Education
  • High School required
Licenses and Certifications
  • Texas EMT-P license or Texas LP licensure required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support required at 180 Days
  • Basic Life Support required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support required at 180 Days
Additional License and Certifications

Any one of: BTLS, ITLS or PHTLS (Basic Trauma Life Support/International Trauma Life Support, Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support) certification - Time Frame: 180 Days within 180 Days Preferred|
