University of Maryland Capital Region Health in Largo, MD is seeking an accomplished Internal Medicine physician educator to serve as Program Director of our Internal Medicine Residency Program. This leadership role oversees educational experience, recruitment, and accreditation, with emphasis on curriculum and resident development.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certification.
  • Licensed or eligible for medical licensure in the State of Maryland, including CDS and DEA certifications.
  • Eligible for appointment to the UM Capital Region Health Medical Staff.
  • Minimum of three years as an active faculty member in an Internal Medicine Residency Program.
  • At least three years of graduate medical education administrative experience within the past 10 years, or qualifications acceptable to the ACGME IM Residency Review Committee.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, resident evaluation, faculty mentorship, clinical teaching, and GME program administration.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to academic medicine, resident development, patient safety, and resident well-being.
  • Experience with EPIC or similar EMR systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the Internal Medicine Residency Program, ensuring excellence and ACGME compliance.
  • Recruit, mentor, evaluate, and develop residents throughout their training.
  • Develop and enhance a competency-based curriculum aligned with residents, patients, and community needs.
  • Lead the program's Annual Program Evaluation (APE) and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC).
  • Support resident and faculty participation in research, scholarship, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Recruit, develop, and mentor faculty while promoting excellence in clinical teaching.
  • Collaborate with department leadership, GME leadership, hospital leadership, faculty, and stakeholders.
  • Champion a positive learning environment focused on education, well-being, mentorship, and patient safety.
  • Maintain an active clinical practice in ambulatory and inpatient settings.

University of Maryland Capital Region Health (UM Capital) is seeking an accomplished and passionate Internal Medicine physician educator to serve as Program Director of our Internal Medicine Residency Program in Largo, Maryland.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced GME leader who is passionate about developing physicians, advancing academic medicine, and creating an exceptional learning environment for residents and faculty.

The Opportunity

As Program Director, you will provide strategic, educational, and administrative leadership for the Internal Medicine Residency Program while helping shape its continued growth and success.

Reporting to the Designated Institutional Official (DIO), you will oversee the program's educational experience, resident recruitment and development, faculty engagement, accreditation, scholarly activity, and overall program performance.

In this highly visible leadership role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead and oversee the Internal Medicine Residency Program, maintaining excellence and compliance with ACGME requirements.
  • Recruit, mentor, evaluate, and develop residents throughout their training.
  • Develop and enhance an innovative, competency-based curriculum aligned with the needs of our residents, patients, and community.
  • Lead the program's Annual Program Evaluation (APE) and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC).

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is an experienced physician educator and collaborative leader with a genuine passion for graduate medical education and resident development.

Qualifications Include
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certification.
  • Licensed or eligible for medical licensure in the State of Maryland, including CDS and DEA certifications.
  • Eligible for appointment to the UM Capital Region Health Medical Staff.
  • Minimum of three years as an active faculty member in an Internal Medicine Residency Program.
