University of Maryland Capital Region Health seeks a Family Medicine Physician to join the Family Medicine Residency Program in Largo, Maryland. As a Faculty Physician you will teach residents in inpatient and ambulatory settings while continuing your own clinical practice.
You will mentor, develop curricula, participate in scholarly activity, and contribute to Graduate Medical Education leadership as part of a collaborative environment that values patient care and lifelong learning.
Teach medicine. Practice medicine. Lead what comes next. Some physicians make an impact one patient at a time. Others have the opportunity to multiply that impact by helping develop the physicians who will care for thousands more.
University of Maryland Capital Region Health is seeking an enthusiastic Family Medicine Physician to join our Family Medicine Residency Program as a Faculty Physician in Largo, Maryland. This is an opportunity for a physician who loves the full scope of Family Medicine but also gets excited about teaching, mentoring, asking great questions, sharing what they’ve learned, and watching residents grow from learners into confident, independent physicians. And for those who aspire to take their career in academic medicine even further, this role offers something more: the opportunity to grow into future leadership within Graduate Medical Education. Here, you won't have to choose between being a physician, educator, mentor, and leader. You can be all four. Our residents are learning how to care for patients—not just diagnoses. As a Faculty Physician, you’ll teach residents how to deliver compassionate, high-quality, patient-centered care while demonstrating the professionalism, curiosity, collaboration, and lifelong learning that define an exceptional Family Medicine physician. You’ll work alongside residents in both ambulatory and inpatient settings, helping them build the clinical judgment and confidence they need to practice independently. And one of the best parts? You’ll get to watch them grow. From coaching through challenging cases to celebrating those moments when everything finally “clicks,” your influence will extend far beyond the walls of the clinic. A Little Teaching. A Little Mentoring. A Lot of Impact.
You’ll spend plenty of time helping residents think about where their careers can go. We want you thinking about yours, too. For physicians interested in building a long-term career in academic medicine, this faculty position provides opportunities to expand your influence beyond clinical care and teaching.
As you grow within the program and institution, there may be opportunities to pursue increasing levels of responsibility and leadership within Graduate Medical Education, including pathways such as:
Whether your goal is to become an exceptional physician educator or eventually take on greater leadership within GME, we want this to be a place where you can build the next chapter of your academic career while helping others begin theirs.
We believe great educators remain connected to the work they teach. In addition to your faculty responsibilities, you’ll continue caring for your own patients and maintaining an active clinical practice.
As with many academic faculty positions, responsibilities may vary based on the needs of the residency program, clinical service, learners, and patients. It’s the balance of practicing today while preparing physicians for tomorrow.
Medicine requires knowledge. Great physicians need more.
Think critically. Communicate clearly. Work across teams. Lead with compassion. Learn from feedback. Stay curious. And care for the whole person. You’ll model professionalism and guide residents in effectively working with healthcare teams, patients, families, and the communities they serve. You’ll also help develop and periodically review rotation‑specific goals and objectives, program aims, policies, elective rotations, and other components that keep the residency moving forward.
We're looking for someone who sees teaching as more than an additional responsibility. You genuinely enjoy it. You’re energized by helping physicians develop their confidence and clinical judgment. You value collaboration and continuous improvement, and you're ready to contribute your ideas to a growing academic environment. Maybe you already have experience in academic medicine. Maybe you've spent years practicing Family Medicine and have realized that teaching, mentoring, and developing other physicians is where you want to make your next big impact. Either way, we'd love to hear from you.
The patients whose lives you personally impact—and the physicians who become better doctors because you helped teach them. As part of the University of Maryland Medical System, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to an environment centered on clinical excellence, education, collaboration, leadership development, and serving the diverse communities of Prince George's County and the surrounding region. And your impact doesn't have to stop at the faculty level. For physicians who want to continue growing in academic medicine, this position offers the opportunity to develop as an educator, expand your influence, and pursue future GME leadership opportunities within the program and institution. Whether you're an experienced faculty physician or an accomplished Family Medicine physician ready to make teaching a bigger part of your career, this is an opportunity to bring your clinical knowledge, ideas, and enthusiasm to the next generation.
Clinical knowledge matters. But so do judgment, empathy, communication, resilience, curiosity, and knowing how to care for the person behind the diagnosis. Those are the ones great physicians learn from other great physicians. Come practice. Come teach. Come mentor. Come grow. Help us shape the next generation of Family Medicine physicians—and maybe the future of Graduate Medical Education leadership—at UM Capital Region Health.
