Overview

Military & Health Research Foundation (MHRF) is seeking a highly qualified Internal Medicine Physician to deliver exceptional patient care services at Mike O’Callahan Military Medical Center on Nellis Air Force Base. The role supports the military healthcare mission by providing timely, high‑quality, patient‑focused radiological care in a dynamic clinical environment.

Minimum Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
• Graduation from an accredited medical school in the United States, Canada, or an institution approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) of the American Medical Association (AMA) or by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
• Certification issued by a board that is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the AOA Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists.
• Completion of an accredited residency program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
• Experience sufficient to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the credentialing instructions.
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine.

Professional Certifications (in addition to Basic Life Support)

• BLS required.
• ACLS or ALS required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) not required.
• Certifications must be through American Red Cross guidelines or American Heart Association; must maintain currency at no cost to the government.

Board Certification

• Must hold current certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine.

Licensure (State of Nevada)

• Permanent, full, and unrestricted medical license to practice medicine in Nevada.

Formal Education & Training

• Graduate of an accredited medical school and completion of an ACGME‑accredited Internal Medicine residency or an accredited osteopathic medical school with completion of an AOA/AACOM residency.
• Internship and residency program approved by ACGME or AOA Office of Post‑doctoral Training.

Years of Professional Experience

• Actively employed in Internal Medicine practice or training for at least 24 of the last 36 months.
• Experience within the past 24 months in performing ECG interpretation, CPR, and other essential internal medicine procedures.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Full‑spectrum Internal Medicine care, including outpatient clinical and procedural services.
• Collaborate with staff and other clinical departments; participate fully with the 99 MDG medical staff.
• Manage acute and chronic internal medicine conditions across cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine, rheumatologic, renal, neurologic, and infectious disease domains.
• Provide new patient consults, follow‑up visits, telehealth and virtual encounters, telephone consults, and secure message responses per MTF policies.
• Adhere to Defense Health Agency policies and meet or exceed established standards for access, Preventive Health Assessment Individual Medical Record (PIMR), and HEDIS measures.
• Coordinate care with community health agencies and social programs; ensure proper referral within the military treatment system.
• Knowledge of TRICARE standards, population‑based health care, disease management, and medically oriented computer systems.
• Familiarity with DoD, federal, state, and non‑profit healthcare systems—including TRICARE purchased care, Medicare, Medicaid, and the Veterans Administration.
• Implement policies and standards that support clinical practice within ethical and legal boundaries.
• Patient advocacy, privacy, and customer relations expertise; child advocate and mandatory reporter duties.
• Basic knowledge of emergency procedures to respond promptly to respiratory or cardiac arrest.
• Consult with medical personnel, legal authorities, and military commanders as required.
• Follow MTF formulary for prescriptions; pre‑approve non‑formulary drugs with the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
• Maintain clinic standards of care and Joint Commission requirements; ensure infection control and safety.
• Prepare documentation meeting or exceeding MTF standards; submit medical records within 72 business hours; use approved MTF abbreviations only.
• Use proper coding (CPT/EM/procedure) and maintain 90% or higher coding accuracy.
• Maintain government records as specified by the 99 MDG; release medical information only to authorized MTF staff.
• Lead, counsel, train, and evaluate staff; develop long‑term management strategies.
• Provide clinical and administrative leadership, coordinate subspecialty referrals, respond to patient consults, and refilling prescriptions.
• Participate in committees, programs, or clinical services related to clinical responsibilities or privileges.
• Promote ongoing education to maintain optimum wellness; provide health counseling and individualized maintenance plans.
• Mentor residents, physician assistant students, medical students, and other health‑care disciplines through clinical rotations, didactics, and outpatient discussions.
• Attend formal educational lectures (approximately 6 per year) and collaborate with other healthcare team members during clinical duties.
• Maintain statistical records of clinical workload; participate in quality improvement functions and other duties assigned by the Chief of Medical Staff or applicable government department chief.
• Attend professional staff conferences, commander's staff meetings, flight meetings, and other meetings required by regulations or MTF guidance.
• Operate a wide variety of medical and non‑medical equipment safely and maintain proper equipment maintenance.
• Protect patient information per HIPAA and local policies; treat all patient data as privileged.
• Respect patient rights and demonstrate concern for personal dignity and human relationships.
• Communicate professionally with MTF staff, customers, and contract personnel; foster interpersonal relationships with clients, families, and coworkers.
