Job summary

Macalester College is seeking an experienced internal communications professional to execute strategic plans that inform, engage, and connect the campus community. The role sits between the Communications & Marketing team and campus partners to align priorities, stories, and visuals for a well-informed community.

You will coordinate content across Mac Daily, announcements, and digital signage, advise partners on best practices, manage the events calendar, and support the daily internal

Job description

Overview Executes strategic communication plans that inform, engage, and connect the campus community. Serves as a bridge between the Communications and Marketing department and various campus partners. Ensures that institutional priorities, campus stories, and visual content are seamlessly aligned to foster a well-informed community.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
  • Coordinates, plans, and distributes content across primary internal communication channels (e.g., Mac Daily, internal announcements, and digital signage) in collaboration with the Communications & Marketing team.
  • Acts as a strategic advisor to campus partners on best practices for reaching internal audiences effectively.
  • Manages and maintains the college events calendar, collaborating with departments across campus to ensure timely, accurate, and engaging promotion of upcoming activities to the internal community.
  • Assists with the production of the daily campus internal newsletter, the Mac Daily.
  • Participates actively in team brainstorming sessions to align internal messaging with broader marketing and external relations efforts.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for campus partners requesting photography and visual content support related to campus events and student life.
  • Manages the intake, vetting, and scheduling process for campus photo shoots, ensuring alignment with overarching communication goals and strategic priorities.
  • Manages permissions (including talent and location releases) prior to handing shoots off to the creative team if required.
  • Assists with loading files into Macalester’s digital asset management system when needed.
  • Supports the AVP of Communications and Marketing with administrative duties.
  • Supports with projects assigned by the AVP of Communications and Marketing.
  • Serves on committees (as assigned) as department liaison.
  • Monitors departmental email inbox.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Completes other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Participates as an active member of the team.
  • Participates in department and college activities and supports implementation of shared goals and initiatives.
  • Provides backup support to other members of the team.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in communications, public relations, internal relations, or a closely related field.
  • Experience collaborating with creative teams (designers, videographers, photographers) to guide visual content creation.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to coordinate schedules and logistics across multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven experience managing internal communication channels or newsletters within a complex organization (higher education environment preferred).
Compensation:

$56,486.00-$59,054.00 Annually
