Job summary

Life Care Services is seeking an Internal Communications Specialist to develop and deliver engaging employee communications across the organization in Des Moines, Iowa. You will partner with Human Resources and leaders to shape messaging that reinforces culture and aligns with strategic initiatives.

The role focuses on crafting compelling content, managing intranet communications, and supporting company-wide events, with a strong emphasis on storytelling and employee engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 4–6 years of internal communications, corporate communications, or public relations experience; agency, healthcare, or senior living experience preferred.
  • Proven success developing and measuring employee communication and engagement programs aligned with business objectives.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead internal communications initiatives on behalf of Human Resources, supporting enterprise-wide messaging related to the Chief Human Resources Officer, benefits programs, employee engagement, talent acquisition, and the Council for Inclusion and Belonging.
  • Write, develop, edit, and manage a wide range of internal communication materials, including intranet content, career site content, social media posts, newsletters, announcements, presentations, webinars, and employee communications.
  • Serve as the primary administrator of the LCS intranet, managing daily content publishing, maintaining site accuracy and organization, and training content contributors to ensure communications are timely, consistent, and aligned with brand standards.
  • Partner with business leaders and key stakeholders to develop and execute communication strategies that support organizational priorities, strengthen company culture, and reinforce the LCS brand and employee value proposition.
  • Provide communications support for company-wide events and initiatives, including town halls, leadership updates, employee engagement programs, and other internal events.
  • Develop and implement measurable internal communication plans that increase employee awareness, engagement, and understanding of the organization’s vision, strategy, and key initiatives.
  • Manage the enterprise internal communications calendar, coordinating with cross-functional teams to plan, prioritize, and deliver communications that align with business objectives and organizational timelines.
  • Collaborate with the communications team and organizational leaders to identify, prepare, and submit nominations for employer recognition, workplace culture, and employee achievement awards.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications efforts using employee feedback, participation metrics, and engagement data, recommending improvements to increase impact and reach.
  • Leverage AI tools to advance and streamline work, processes, and improve efficiency.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The Internal Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and delivering engaging employee communications that inform, connect, and inspire employees across LCS. Working closely with Human Resources and organizational leaders, this role creates and manages communication strategies that support key business initiatives, strengthen company culture, and enhance employee engagement. Through compelling storytelling and strategic messaging, the Internal Communications Specialist helps employees understand the organization’s vision, celebrate successes, and stay connected to the people, programs, and initiatives that make LCS a great place to work. This role plays a critical part in fostering an informed, engaged, and connected workforce.

What You’ll Do:

    • Skilled at building trusted relationships and collaborating effectively with employees at all levels, including senior leadership.
    • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance big‑picture planning and hands‑on execution.
    • Experience working with external vendors and cross‑functional teams.
    • Proficiency in AP Style and content management platforms such as SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.
    • Working knowledge of Canva, YouTube, Vimeo, and other digital communication tools.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
