Job summary

Gunderson Dettmer is seeking an Internal Communications Manager to develop and execute firmwide internal communications that keep attorneys and business services professionals informed, aligned, and engaged with the Firm’s strategy, values, culture, and key initiatives.

The role reports to the Chief Communications Officer and collaborates with Firm leadership and cross-functional teams to translate complex priorities and change initiatives into clear, timely, and engaging communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required and six or more years of experience in internal communications, employee engagement, change communications, or related field.
• Experience in a law firm or professional services environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the firm’s internal communications strategy and annual plan in alignment with objectives, brand, values and culture.
• Create communications plans, messaging frameworks, timelines and channels for firmwide initiatives.
• Manage internal communications content across announcements, leadership messages, newsletters, intranet content and talking points.
• Lead communications planning for major organizational, operational, technology and cultural changes and partner with leaders to coordinate efforts.

Gunderson Dettmer has an opening for an Internal Communications Manager in our Silicon Valley or New York office. The Internal Communications Manager develops and executes firmwide internal communications that keep attorneys and business services professionals informed, aligned, and engaged with the Firm’s strategy, values, culture, and key initiatives.

Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, this highly visible role partners with Firm leadership and cross-functional teams to translate complex priorities and change initiatives into clear, timely, and engaging communications. The Manager oversees communications planning, content development, internal channels, and measurement in a fast-paced, professional-services environment.

Communications Strategy and Planning

• Develop and execute the Firm’s internal communications strategy and annual plan in alignment with business objectives, brand, values, and culture.
• Lead communications campaigns supporting Firm priorities, operational initiatives, talent programs, cultural initiatives, and other strategic objectives.
• Create communications plans, messaging frameworks, stakeholder maps, timelines, and channel strategies for firmwide and departmental initiatives.
• Manage the internal communications calendar to ensure coordinated, timely, and consistent messaging across offices, practices, and business services functions.
• Identify and implement improvements to communications planning, governance, processes, and coordination.

Content and Channel Management

• Develop, edit, and oversee internal communications, including announcements, leadership messages, newsletters, intranet content, presentations, FAQs, talking points, and toolkits.
• Establish editorial standards, templates, workflows, and publishing practices that improve quality, consistency, and efficiency.
• Manage and optimize internal communications channels, including the intranet, collaboration platforms, email, newsletters, and other digital channels.
• Ensure internal content is current, organized, searchable, and accessible.
• Use engagement data, employee feedback, and stakeholder input to improve content, timing, formats, and distribution.

Change and Leadership Communications

• Lead communications planning and execution for major organizational, operational, technology, brand, growth, and cultural change initiatives.
• Partner with leadership, HR, IT, Knowledge Management, Practice Management, and other stakeholders to coordinate communications across initiatives.
• Prepare leaders for firmwide and departmental communications through executive messages, presentations, talking points, Q&A documents, and communication toolkits.
• Create practical tools and resources that help leaders and managers communicate effectively with their teams.
• Build strong, responsive, and solutions-oriented relationships with stakeholders across the Firm.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, Public Relations, or a related field.
• Six or more years of progressive experience in internal communications, employee engagement, change communications, corporate communications, or a closely related field.
• Experience in a law firm, professional services, financial services, or other complex organization strongly preferred.

Minimum Requirements

• Strong writing, editing, and presentation-development skills.
• Experience developing communications plans, campaigns, and content for organizational or business change.
• Strong project-management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.
• Experience supporting senior leaders and managing internal communications channels or platforms.
• Ability to work effectively across a complex organization with sound judgment and discretion.

Preferred Requirements

• Advanced degree in a related field.
• Experience establishing communications governance, editorial processes, content calendars, or channel-management practices.
• Experience using engagement data, employee feedback, or channel analytics to improve communications.

Status

• Full Time, Exempt.

The annualized base salary range for this position is expected to be $140,000.00 - $185,000.00. While this range reflects the minimum and maximum value for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations, the offer for the successful candidate for this position will be based on job related capabilities, applicable experience, and other factors such as work location. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only and do not include bonus, benefits, or related incentives for which this position is eligible.
