Job description

Internal Auditor AI Training Contributor

Accounting Domain | Remote, Freelance | Verita AI x Crossing Hurdles

About Verita AI

Verita AI builds high-trust data pipelines that enable AI systems to understand real-world accounting workflows, from close processes to complex judgment calls. The founding team includes alumni of Mercor, Hudson River Trading, Citadel, Stanford, and Yale. Verita AI is seed-stage, valued at $25 million, having raised $6 million led by Kindred Ventures.

Role Overview

Crossing Hurdles is sourcing experienced Internal Auditors to contribute to AI training work with Verita AI on a remote, freelance basis. In this role, you will apply your accounting expertise to evaluate AI-generated outputs, surface reasoning errors, and help translate complex audit and financial workflows into structured training data. This is a long‑term engagement suited to practitioners with deep knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial operations.

What You Will Do
  • Evaluate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, reasoning quality, and domain correctness across accounting and audit scenarios.
  • Translate real-world accounting workflows and audit processes into structured tasks for AI training.
  • Identify gaps, edge cases, and reasoning errors that only an experienced accounting professional would catch.
  • Document assumptions, thought processes, and professional judgment clearly in written form.
  • Provide structured feedback that engineering teams use to improve AI model performance.
Domain Focus
  • Month‑end and year‑end close processes
  • Journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
  • Financial reporting and compliance
  • GAAP and IFRS application
  • Audit procedures and internal controls
Requirements
  • 5 to 8 or more years of experience in accounting, internal audit, or financial operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP; IFRS familiarity is a plus.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, or QuickBooks.
  • CPA preferred; candidates with equivalent credentialing or demonstrated technical depth will be considered.
  • Ability to articulate complex accounting concepts and judgment calls in clear written form.
Work Style and Expectations

All work is asynchronous. There is no fixed schedule, no mandatory meeting cadence, and no time zone requirement. Communication is handled via Slack and internal tooling. A minimum of 10 hours per week is required, with 15 to 20 or more hours per week strongly preferred. Consistent engagement and responsiveness are expected throughout the engagement.

Compensation
  • $100 to $125 per hour USD, depending on experience.
  • Paid fortnightly via Deel.
  • Long‑term engagement with ongoing work availability.
  • Retainer opportunities available for strong, consistent contributors.
You May Be a Good Fit If
  • You have owned or meaningfully contributed to close processes in a professional accounting or audit capacity.
  • You care deeply about accuracy and precision, and you notice when something is technically correct but practically incomplete.
  • You are comfortable working through edge cases and applying professional judgment in ambiguous situations.
