The City of Austin is seeking an experienced Internal Auditor III to independently conduct and supervise internal audits across utilities and city operations. You will assess internal controls, risk management, and governance processes, and report findings to executive leadership and the Audit Committee.
Responsibilities include planning audits, performing data analysis, interviewing staff, testing controls, drafting audit reports, and coaching junior auditors. Domestic travel may be required.
The purpose of this role is to provide senior-level internal audit services for Austin Energy, with a focus on evaluating and testing internal controls, risk management, and governance processes across various business units. Key responsibilities will include identifying relevant criteria and best practices, gathering and analyzing data, conducting interviews, drawing conclusions, making recommendations, finalizing audit reports. Findings will be communicated to executive management and presented at Audit Committee briefings. This role involves leading projects, coaching auditors, and collaborating with other auditors. Please note that this is not a financial auditing position.
Internal Auditor III Purpose: Under general direction, this position performs auditing work which includes investigating, reviewing, and analyzing financial information, internal controls, operational performance, and management practices to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and Local, State, and Federal laws, statutes, and guidelines.
This position is not responsible for supervising, but may lead multiple projects, assign project tasks to others, review tasks performed by others, and coach others.
Pay Range: $75,950.00 (Entry) - $95,700.00 (Midpoint)
Schedule: Monday - Friday - 40 hours weekly - 60% Telework Policy

This work can be done while at a designated work site or while working at an alternate work location. Critical employees who are able to work at an alternative work location are required to do so. Schedules may be modified, and employees may be reassigned to another area during extraordinary situations or emergency conditions to provide essential services.
Fair Labor Standards Act: This position is considered FLSA Exempt. Exempt employees are salaried and, except as provided, are not eligible for overtime compensation.
Travel: If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Standards you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.
