Job summary

Symbotic is seeking an Intern/Co-op UX Designer to contribute to end-to-end design projects from sketches to high-fidelity visuals. You will help develop the SymboticUI Design System and collaborate with UX Researchers, senior designers, and development teams to deliver intuitive interfaces.

This role offers exposure to robotics and software products at our Wilmington, MA headquarters, with on-site work and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong understanding of UX design principles and user-centered design methodologies.
• Ability to work with ambiguous requirements and produce results independently.
• Familiarity with design tools like Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD.
• Willingness to collaborate and contribute UX perspective to development teams.
• Effective communication and openness to design critiques.
• Experience working across multiple design projects with timelines in JIRA, Confluence, etc.
• Familiarity with generative AI in UX design is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Apply user-centered design, Design Thinking processes, and Lean Design to create exceptional user experiences.
• Be a self-motivated team member, working independently and seeking guidance when necessary.
• Organize and facilitate user testing sessions with UX Researchers and designers.
• Contribute to developing and maintaining the SymboticUI Design System.
• Own design projects end-to-end with sketches, wireframes, high-fidelity visuals, and Figma prototypes.
• Advocate for end-users, UX research, design processes, usability and accessibility, and interface standards.
• Observe operations at the Wilmington, MA site to better understand hardware and software for design context.

Whatyou'lldo:

• Apply user-centered design, Design Thinking processes, and Lean Design principles to create exceptional user experiences.

• Observe operations at the Wilmington, MA Headquarters and Test site to experienceSymbotic’scomplex hardware and software products for better context when designing.

Whatyou'llneed:

• Currentlypursuing aBachelor’sdegree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, UX Design) or equivalent practical experience.

• A creative, strategic, and innovative personality with a drive to ask insightful questions and understand user aspirations, frustration, and motivations.

• Solid understanding of UX design principles, information architecture, and user-centered design methodologies.

• Ability to work with ambiguous requirements and produce results independently.

• Familiaritywith design tools like Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD.

• Willingness to collaborate and bring a voice for UX to development teams, ensuring that designs are implemented as intended.

• Vocal, humble, and coachable contributor and recipient of design critiques.

• Ability to work across multiple design projectswithmaintainingtimelines and deadlines in JIRA, Confluence, etc.

• Familiarity with generative AI applied to UX design and analysis, with interest in othertechnologiesis a plus.

Our Environment

• Up to 10% of travel may berequired. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.

• The employeeis responsible forowning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.

The base range for this position in the posted location is $32.00 - $44.00 however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes medical, dental, vision, disability, 401K, PTO and/or other benefits.
