Job summary

Qualifications

• Enrollment in an accredited degree program with degree progress documentation.
• Sophomore or higher with at least 30 credits.
• Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
• Willingness to work at NBCUniversal's Fort Worth station.
• Majoring in Journalism or Communications.
• Familiarity with Premiere and Photoshop.
• Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organizational and presentation skills.
• Experience using TikTok, Facebook and Instagram.
• Knowledge of AP Style and newswriting.
• Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Participate in daily planning meetings and contribute ideas for news programming.

• Make beat checks and enter assignments into the system.

• Cut video from newscasts, add metadata, and post on social media and website/app.
• Generate story ideas focusing on trends, SEO, and current events.
• Participate in brainstorming sessions for new content ideas and platforms.
• Keep up with social media trends and pitch new strategies for the newsroom.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

• Participate in daily planning meetings and contribute ideas for news programming based on NBC DFW News Strategy.
• Observe communication among producer, director, and production personnel in the control room during news programs.
• Use websites and social media tools to monitor and report news, find sources and leads for stories, and monitor mainstream and social media for story ideas and competitive intelligence.
• Write assigned segments, including digital newscasts, and articles for the website using AP Style and formatting.
• Make beat checks and enter current and future news assignments into the system.
• Make and answer phone calls and help coordinate guests for newscasts.
• Work with reporters, meteorologists, and other news team members to prepare web articles.
• Cut video from newscasts, add proper metadata, and post on social media and website/app.
• Generate story and article ideas focusing on Google Trends, SEO strategy, and current events.
• Participate in brainstorming sessions for new content ideas and platforms.
• Keep up on social media trends and pitch ideas to incorporate new strategies into the newsroom.

About You

The company is looking for:

• Students actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the internship, with documentation of degree progress.
• Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
• Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by NBCUniversal.
• Willingness to work at the station in Fort Worth, Texas.
• Pursuing a major in Journalism, Communications, or a similar subject.
• Familiarity with Premiere and Photoshop.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and creative skills.
• Exceptional project management, organizational, and presentation skills.
• Experience using TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.
• Prior use of WordPress preferred but not required.
• Interest in the television, streaming, or digital industries.
• Knowledge of AP Style and newswriting.
• Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are a plus.
