Job summary

Dominion Energy is seeking multiple System Protection Technician Interns for Summer 2027 at our district offices in Herndon and Loudoun, VA. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience in the field of electric transmission and distribution.

Interns will work with System Protection Technicians to develop understanding of substation equipment, high-voltage diagnostics, protective relays, and control circuit troubleshooting.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled at a 2-year or 4-year school pursuing a Bachelor’s or Associate’s Technology degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Electronics Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Mechatronic Technology or similar fields.
• Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.
• Must have an anticipated graduation date of Winter 2027 or later.
• Due to weight limits on equipment, a weight restriction of 290 pounds applies.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and meet physical requirements (climb, stoop, stand, bend).

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret electrical design drawings.
• Assist with infrared scans and basic instrument checkout and repair.
• Participate in high-voltage diagnostic testing and relay testing.
• Support functional testing of protection systems and control circuits.
• Shadow System Protection Technicians to gain insight into substation equipment and field operations.

• Must meet physical requirements including:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity, color vision, hearing, climbing, stooping, standing, and bending.

The hourly rate listed is the rate we anticipate paying for this position. If a range is listed, the actual hourly rate offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate's degree type, academic major, and/or school classification (e.g., sophomore, junior, senior).
