Job summary

TxDOT Odessa District is offering paid internship positions at the Odessa District Headquarters. Interns gain hands-on administrative experience while supporting daily operations, reception, data gathering, and document quality checks.

Open to high school or college students; positions are onsite with potential for flexible scheduling and on-the-job training. Benefits include learning opportunities and entry into state civil service roles.

Qualifications

  • At least 16 years of age and currently enrolled in an educational institution.
  • Driver's license may be required for some duties (18+).

TxDOT is excited to announce internship positions in the Odessa District. This position is located at the Odessa District Headquarters. Annually we hire over 1,000 College and High School students from across Texas and beyond to be a part of the Texas Department of Transportation. Many of the TxDOT Executive Leadership team and District Leadership team were also paid interns at one time. Performs entry‑level administrative support work. Work involves performing a wide range of administrative and office support work for the department. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

Answers the telephone, evaluates requests, answers questions, routes messages, and/or serves as receptionist or front desk assistant.

Disseminates information to the public.

Maintains files, records, and logs.

Makes copies and distributes as instructed.

Performs preliminary research on assignments and gathers pertinent data.

Performs routine word processing duties and conducts quality checks of documents created.

Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:

Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution.

Other Conditions:

Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school.

Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.

  • Maintaining effective working relationships with others
  • Collecting, sorting and compiling data
  • Administrative support practices and procedures to include writing, editing and report writing techniques, recording meeting notes, record keeping and records management
  • Preparing correspondence/documents using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation; proofreading and reviewing documents for clarity and consistency
  • Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
  • Follow verbal and written instructions
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes

Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs

Sitting - prolonged periods of time

Standing-prolonged periods of time

Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
