Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation in Houston is seeking a year-round Intern Support Technician to support the Human Resources Office. This role offers hands-on involvement across HR activities, including onboarding and data audits, with opportunities to build skills in a large statewide department.

The position provides entry-level experience, exposure to HR-related issues, and the chance to contribute to a busy district while developing professional skills in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be a student in high school or enrolled in college, university, or vocational school.
  • Must be at least 16 years old; employees 18+ with a valid driver’s license may be assigned driving duties.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in maintaining confidential information and records.
  • Primarily supports the HR Generalists; maintains files, records, and logs (paper and electronic).
  • Assists with recruiting, pre-employment/due diligence tasks and onboarding/offboarding.
  • Conducts data audits/updates—Education, Driver's License, Safety Impact, Professional Engineer, Emergency Contact and other systems information.
  • Assists in event preparation, including New Employee Orientation, Recruiting, Wellness and district events as needed.
  • Gains exposure to HR-related issues and performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Performs entry-level administrative support work. Work involves performing a wide range of administrative and office support work for the department. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

  • Assists in maintaining confidential information and records.
  • Primarily supports the HR Generalists.
  • Maintains files, records, and logs, paper and electronic.
  • Assists with recruiting, pre-employment/due diligence tasks and onboarding/offboarding.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:

Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution.

Other Conditions:

Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school.

Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes

Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs

Sitting - prolonged periods of time

Standing-prolonged periods of time

Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
