Job summary

Atlanta Life Insurance Company is seeking an Intern in Strategy & Corporate Development in Atlanta, GA. The role focuses on evaluating strategic initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, and long-term growth opportunities.

You will collaborate with finance, actuarial, underwriting, and business development teams to build models, perform market research, and prepare materials for executive decision-making. This internship offers hands-on exposure to corporate strategy within a leading insurer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and current enrollment in an advanced degree program in actuarial science, business, economics, accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • At least two years of relevant professional or internship experience in one or more of: actuarial work, corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, financial planning and analysis, investment banking.

Responsibilities

  • Support special projects across corporate strategy, corporate development, business development, and operations.
  • Research potential acquisition targets, strategic partnerships, and new business opportunities using publicly available industry and company information.
  • Assist with the development and evaluation of the mergers and acquisitions pipeline.
  • Build and maintain financial models to evaluate investment returns, pricing, capital impact, and strategic value.
  • Conduct financial, actuarial, valuation, and industry analyses related to prospective transactions and strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinate and document due diligence requests, responses, findings, and transaction approval materials.
  • Partner with actuarial, finance, underwriting, and other teams to validate assumptions used in financial models and business cases.
  • Monitor insurance, reinsurance, and capital-market activity to identify emerging trends and competitor strategies.
  • Prepare clear, concise presentations and reports for senior leaders and other stakeholders, including the Board of Directors.
  • Provide recurring and ad hoc analytical support for mergers and acquisitions, structured financing transactions, and broader enterprise initiatives.
  • Support business development activities and cross-functional projects that strengthen operational effectiveness and company growth.

How You’ll Contribute
As a Strategy & Corporate Development Intern, you will support the identification, evaluation, and execution of strategic initiatives across Atlanta Life, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, business development, and long-term growth opportunities. You will collaborate with leaders and cross-functional partners in actuarial, finance, underwriting, operations, and business development to evaluate potential transactions, conduct market research, develop financial analyses, and prepare materials that support executive decision-making. This internship offers hands-on exposure to corporate strategy, financial services, insurance, and reinsurance within a collaborative and inclusive environment.

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Bring

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and current enrollment in an advanced degree program in actuarial science, business, economics, accounting, finance, or a related field.

Experience:

  • At least two years of relevant professional or internship experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Actuarial work
    • Corporate strategy
    • Mergers and acquisitions
    • Financial planning and analysis
    • Investment banking
  • Experience in the insurance or financial services industry is preferred but not required.
  • Exposure to statutory accounting, reinsurance, actuarial science, risk-based capital, investments, or asset-liability management is a plus.
  • Experience with financial information and data platforms, such as S&P Capital IQ or PitchBook, is a plus.
  • Progress toward Society of Actuaries examinations is preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex financial or actuarial information and communicate clear, actionable insights.
  • Familiarity with financial modeling, valuation methods, and data visualization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Exposure to SQL, Python, or actuarial modeling tools is a plus.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when working with confidential information.
  • Collaborative approach and ability to build productive relationships across teams.
  • Curiosity, resourcefulness, and an interest in corporate strategy, financial services, and market trends.
