The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is seeking an IT Infrastructure Internship to join our Information Technology Bureau. This role offers hands-on experience with desktop hardware, workstation deployments, asset tracking, and enterprise IT operations in a public safety environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation, configuration, deployment, maintenance, and replacement of desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices, monitors, printers, scanners, docking stations, and other IT hardware used throughout the Sheriff's Office.
  • Provide first-level technical support by assisting with the diagnosis and resolution of hardware, peripheral, and basic software issues under the guidance of Information Technology Bureau staff.
  • Prepare and configure computer equipment for deployment, including imaging, software installation, operating system updates, peripheral setup, and quality assurance testing in accordance with PCSO standards.
  • Assist with hardware lifecycle activities, including equipment refreshes, surplus processing, warranty returns, and disposal procedures.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for IT hardware, peripherals, and related equipment using approved asset management procedures.
  • Assist with workstation moves, additions, changes, and equipment installations at Sheriff's Office facilities as assigned.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, cable management, equipment labeling, and routine inspections to ensure hardware reliability and organization.
  • Assist with maintaining current software updates, security patches, and standard desktop configurations on assigned workstations under staff supervision.
  • Maintain the organization, cleanliness, and security of IT workspaces, deployment areas, storage rooms, workbenches, and equipment staging locations.
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service while assisting Sheriff's Office personnel with technology‑related requests.
  • Observe and participate in IT infrastructure projects to gain practical experience with enterprise hardware support, asset management, and technical operations.
  • Follow Sheriff's Office policies, procedures, and information security standards while handling equipment and sensitive information.
  • Participate in Sheriff's Office recruitment, internship, and community outreach activities as directed.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is seeking an IT Infrastructure Internship to join our Information Technology Bureau. This internship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the technology that supports a law enforcement environment. You will assist with computer hardware installation and configuration, workstation deployments, technical troubleshooting, equipment lifecycle management, asset tracking, preventative maintenance, and other infrastructure-related projects while learning from experienced IT professionals.

The ideal candidate is a motivated student with a strong interest in technology, problem-solving, and learning how an enterprise IT environment operates. Under the supervision of the Bureau designee, the Intern will provide hands‑on support for computer hardware, peripheral devices, and related technology systems within the Information Technology Bureau. The Intern can expect an increasing amount of responsibility related to internship, while gaining professional work experience and firsthand involvement with services that support the law enforcement community. The Intern observes, assists, and learns as the Information Technology Infrastructure designee performs hardware support, equipment lifecycle management, asset tracking, workstation deployments, technical troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and other infrastructure-related duties in accordance with Bureau policies and industry best practices.
