Job summary

GM Financial is seeking a Software Development Engineer Intern to collaborate with Agile teams and gain hands-on experience across web, mobile, API, and data-driven applications. You will participate in Scrum ceremonies, support DevOps and vulnerability remediation, and help deliver scalable technology solutions in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include attending scrum events, assisting with vulnerabilities remediation, building DevOps tooling, and delivering high-quality features

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in CS, Data Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics or related field.
• GPA minimum of 3.0 (out of 4.0).
• Junior or Senior classification is preferred.

The Software Development Engineer Intern collaborates with Agile development teams to build and enhance software solutions while gaining hands-on experience across web, mobile, API, and data-driven applications. This role participates in Scrum ceremonies, supports DevOps and vulnerability remediation efforts, contributes to production-focused engineering practices, and helps deliver high-quality, scalable technology solutions in a fast-paced environment.

In this role you will:

• Attend and participate in scrum events (the sprint, daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint review, sprint retrospective)
• Participate in team or departmental meetings
• Assist with vulnerabilities remediation
• Assist with building/improvement of DevOps tooling (e.g., pipelines, static scanning etc.)
• Complete the internship program final capstone presentation
• Maintain a production-first mindset focused on scale, uptime and ability to rapidly triage/resolve production issues
• Invest in our Agile practice to continuously improve product quality, time to market
• Learn to develop product features for any of the following: data marketplaces, mobile applications, web applications, and API services

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication skills required. This incumbent will be required to give presentations and communicate with business leaders.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, problem solving, and conceptual skills required.
• Must be detail oriented and able to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
• Must be able to work independently or in a team setting.
• Previous internships are considered a plus

Additional Knowledge and Skills

Working effectively within an AI enabled environment:

• Ability to use AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) to support daily work
• Skills in evaluating AI outputs for accuracy, compliance, and bias
• Experience integrating AI into workflows to improve efficiency or insights
• Familiarity with AI assisted research, summarization, and content generation
• Understanding of responsible AI use, including ethics and data protection

Work Experience & Education

• Must be a student pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics with at least one semester remaining upon start of the internship.
• Must possess a minimum of a 3.0 (out of a 4-point scale) GPA.
• Junior or Senior classification preferred.
