What Your Job Will Be Like:

The Computer Science Research Institute (CSRI) seeks several students (job title: summer R&D undergraduate intern) to participate in collaborative research across a wide range of areas in computer science, applied mathematics, discrete mathematics, mathematical modeling, artificial intelligence, computational science and engineering, and high-performance computing. Possible research areas include quantum computing, advanced computer architectures, systems software, parallel algorithms, programming languages and paradigms, machine learning, data sciences, inverse methods, topology and shape optimization, computational geometry, materials, combinatorial mathematics, discrete event simulation, scalable solvers, continuous and discrete optimization, uncertainty quantification, statistics, multiscale methods and mathematics, Multiphysics modeling, visualization, advanced modeling and simulation, human decision modeling, and brain inspired computing. Students are also sought with interests in applying computational methods to scientific and engineering applications molecular dynamics, magnetohydrodynamics, computational fluid dynamics, electrical systems, rapid advanced manufacturing, and climate security.

These student internships are for motivated and enthusiastic individuals with excellent communication skills and who have the desire to gain research experience in a highly collaborative research environment. Successful applicants will be exposed to a wide range of computational research at Sandia and will have strong project-based research experience working directly with Sandia staff scientists. This opportunity is for Sandia's Livermore, California laboratory.

On any given day, the intern maybe involved in activities related to the above research areas. Depending on the intern interests, the work may be more focused on research or software development. Potential activities include:
