Job summary

Altec Industries, Inc. in Duluth, MN is seeking an engineering associate intern to participate in routine design, testing and development activities under supervision.

You will use standard procedures to complete tasks and gain exposure to real-world engineering challenges, with increasing independence as you progress. The program emphasizes applying engineering knowledge, collaborating with team members and customers, and building the foundation to grow into a professional engineer.

Qualifications

• Enrolled full-time in college or university and in good standing.
• At least 18 years old.
• Completed minimum 24 hours of coursework or sophomore class standing.
• Minimum GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
• Preference for on-site, part-time availability during the school year.

Responsibilities

• Complete routine engineering assignments using SOPs and established processes.
• Develop independence to work with less supervision over time.
• Apply engineering procedures and basic calculations to develop solutions requiring minor innovation.
• Gather and evaluate engineering data with guidance from senior engineers.
• Interact professionally with Altec personnel and customer representatives to complete projects.
• Develop the skills necessary to become an engineer.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Using standard operating procedures, established engineering processes and basic calculations, successfully complete in an efficient and timely manner routine engineering assignments that may include research, testing, design and development.
• Develop the ability and demonstrate the initiative to complete tasks in a manner requiring less direct and immediate supervision than would be required in the initial phases of the associate engineer’s employment.
• Apply engineering procedures and calculations to develop solutions to problems requiringsome minor level of innovation.
• With technical guidance from more senior engineers, gather and evaluate engineering data in order to apply knowledge to relevant assignments.
• Interact in an effective and appropriate manner with other Altec personnel and customer representatives in order to complete projects and assignments.
• Develop the skills necessary to become an engineer.

Basic Qualifications

Students must:

• be able to provide documentation stating that they are enrolled full-time in a college or university and in good standing.
• be at least 18 years of age.
• have completed a minimum of 24 hours of coursework or have earned sophomore class standing.
• maintain a minimum GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
• preference given to those who are able to work on site with a part-time schedulethroughout the school year.
