Job summary

LEO A DALY is offering a Summer Intern position in Minneapolis to support HVAC and piping design across multiple projects. You will work under licensed engineers, performing design calculations, creating reports, and developing deliverable drawings such as site plans, HVAC and piping plans, controls diagrams, details, schematics, and schedules.

Responsibilities include assisting with project design and documentation, coordinating with Mechanical Designers, and contributing to cross-discipline

Qualifications

• Working toward an ABET-accredited degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering.
• REVIT MEP proficiency is preferred.
• Experience with load, system sizing, and energy modeling software is a plus.
• Strong graphic, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and participate in site observations.

Description

As a Summer Intern you will assist in designing, configuring, and detailing HVAC and piping systems solutions that enhance the functionality, sustainability, and comfort of the built environment.

Summer Interns work as part of a multi-discipline team performing mechanical engineering design during all phases of multiple simultaneous projects. You will perform assignments under the direct supervision of one or more licensed mechanical engineers and concentrate on specific design or technical documentation tasks that contribute to overall projects. Assignments will include performing design calculations, preparing reports, and producing deliverable drawing sets including site plans, HVAC plans, piping plans, controls diagrams, details, schematics, and schedules.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assists to design and specify project-appropriate mechanical engineering requirements.


• Coordinates designs with the work of Mechanical Designers.


• Performs Revit modeling and detailing


• Assists to conduct site investigations and observations.


• Assists to prepare narratives, reports, hand and computer calculations, drawing and specification documents in accordance with a high degree of quality, yet with regard to project schedule and budget constraints.


• Assists to perform cross-discipline discussions and coordination.


• Additional assignments may include attending client and internal meetings, assisting with performing construction contract administration, and assisting with marketing/business development activities.

Requirements

• Must be working towards graduation of ABET-accredited degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a mechanical emphasis.


• Knowledge and proficiency with computer software including REVIT MEP is a preferred.


• Knowledge and proficiency using load, system sizing, and energy modeling software is a plus.


• Strong graphic, verbal, and written communication skills and knowledge of other building systems.


• Positive attitude and commitment to being an active participant working as part of a multi-discipline team.


• Active involvement and demonstrated leadership skills in extracurricular activities on campus and in the community is preferred.

Pay range for this position varies between $20/hr-$25/hr, depending upon applicable experience.
