RENK America in Muskegon, MI, seeks a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support engineers in designing components and sub-systems for AVDS engine projects, including test planning, failure analysis, and performance improvements.

You will develop requirements, create concept and detailed designs, procure hardware, and assist with test execution while gaining exposure to transmissions and turret drive subsystems for military ground vehicles.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing BS in Mechanical Engineering ( Jr./Sr. status ) with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Ability to perform mechanical stress and structural engineering calculations.
  • Ability to perform thermal fluids and heat transfer calculations.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% and obtain DOD security clearance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Job Description

The Mechanical Engineering Intern will be supporting RENK America engineers with the design and development of components and sub-systems at RENK America. The Mechanical Engineering Intern will work primarly on the AVDS Engine which is an air cooled, V-12, turbocharged, diesel engine currently rated up to 1200 hp. Projects range in scope from advanced research and development of future products to failure analysis and incremental improvements to existing products. The Product Engineering Intern will be responsible for requirements development, concept design, analysis, detailed design, drawings, hardware procurement, supplier technical support, test planning and execution, and failure analysis. Other responsibilities may include design and development of components and sub-systems for transmissions and turret drive systems for military ground vehicles at RENK America.

  • Working toward a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university (Jr. or Sr. status).
  • Ability to perform mechanical stress and structural engineering calculations.
  • Ability to perform thermal fluids and heat transfer calculations.
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple project tasks to meet established deadlines.
  • Must be capable of obtaining a DOD security clearance.
  • Good written and verbal communications.
  • Must be willing to travel (up to 10%).
  • Must be able to move freely within the manufacturing and lab environment with reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Additional Skills
  • Demonstrated technical ability through a high GPA (3.0 minimum).
  • Engine and engine sub-system design and test experience, especially fuel, lubrication, and cooling systems.
  • Experience designing and developing mechanical and/or hydro-mechanical systems.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Creo / Pro-E experience.
  • Ability to create macros (code) to pull and analyze test data / information from unique sources.
Position Requirements
