WSB's National Internship Program offers hands-on experience in transportation and infrastructure projects, pairing interns with engineers and technicians to learn testing and inspection processes.

As an intern, you will assist with field and laboratory testing of construction materials, collect samples, document results, and support project teams to ensure quality and timely delivery, while developing professional skills in a collaborative, safety‑minded environment.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a two-year technical degree or four-year degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions on active construction sites.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities

  • Assist field and laboratory testing of aggregate, soil, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials.
  • Collect, prepare, and document samples and test results per project requirements.
  • Support construction observation and inspection activities on active project sites.
  • Operate, maintain, set up and calibrate testing equipment.
  • Complete daily reports and field documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, contractors, and project teams to support delivery.
  • Follow safety policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

What You Will Do:

The Construction Materials Intern will assist with field and laboratory testing of construction materials and support inspection activities on transportation and infrastructure projects. This role provides hands on experience working with engineers and technicians to ensure materials and construction activities meet project requirements and quality standards. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Assist with field and laboratory testing of aggregate, soil, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials.
  • Collect, prepare, and document material samples and test results in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Support construction observation and inspection activities on active project sites.
  • Operate, maintain, and assist with the usage, setup and calibration of testing equipment.
  • Complete daily reports, field documentation, and other project records.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, contractors, and project teams to support project delivery.
  • Follow company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What You Will Bring:
  • Current enrollment or pursuit of a two-year technical degree or four-year degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
