ConocoPhillips invites enrolled students to join as a Land Negotiator Intern on an asset team within the Land Organization. You’ll assist with lease, contract, and ownership analysis while gaining exposure to surface and subsurface agreements, negotiations, due diligence, and decision support.

Assignments will typically be at our Houston, TX or Midland, TX sites. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher (MBA or JD/LL.M.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher (MBA or JD/LL.M. considered).
  • Current college level: Freshman through Senior or Graduate Student.
  • GPA 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Completing projects with mentor and land staff; presenting results to Land Management.
  • Exposure to surface or subsurface agreement negotiations, contract drafting, and due diligence.
  • Assisting with acquiring, trading, or divesting surface or subsurface rights.
  • Collaborating with engineering, geology, finance, and accounting teams.
  • Representing ConocoPhillips in dealings with co-owners, mineral owners, and government entities.

You will be exposed to many phases of mineral and surface land work including deal negotiation, contract drafting, due diligence, and decision support for Land and business unit management. You will be responsible for lease, contract, and ownership analysis. In addition, you will receive cross-functional training through on-the-job assignments using the technical skills you have acquired in college or through your work experiences.The work will develop you technically and professionally. You'll have a Land Negotiator mentor and a buddy to help you adjust to ConocoPhillips' corporate environment.Assignments will typically be at our sites located in Houston, Texas or Midland, Texas.Typical length of our internships varies from 10 to 12 weeks based on the project and your availability.Position OverviewResponsibilities may include:Completing projects targeted to experience level, working with mentor and other land staff, and presenting the results to Lower 48 Land ManagementExposure to surface or subsurface agreement negotiations, contract drafting, and due diligenceAssisting with acquiring, trading, or divesting surface or subsurface rightsWorking with legal counsel on various issues including clearing title for drilling and division order purposesCollaborating with numerous internal functions such as engineering, geology, finance, and accountingRepresenting ConocoPhillips in dealing with co-owners, mineral owners, surface owners, and local, state, and federal government entitiesBasic/Required:Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer and/or education institutionPursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher (MBA or JD/LL.M.) in Business Administration with a focus in Energy Commerce, Energy Management, Energy Law, Petroleum Land Management, other related field, or foreign equivalentCurrent level in college: Freshman through Senior or Graduate StudentExpected graduation date: Fall 2027 through Spring/Fall 2030Available for internship start mid-late May 2027A minimum of ten (10) continuous weeks availability for internshipPreferred:Willing to work in either of these locations: Houston, TX or Midland, TXA minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scaleProficient in Microsoft Office SuiteListens actively and invites new ideas for exchanged opinions, then influences and acts to drive positive performance and achieve resultsUnderstands how key financial and quantitative indicators impact the businessTakes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what's rightAll interested candidates must complete an online application at the ConocoPhillips Careers website to be considered for an interview.
