Job summary

BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. Summer Internship Program offers hands-on experience building and automating Power BI reporting for our external manufacturing operations over 10–12 weeks, with dashboards and data pipelines.

You will document automation, work with cross-functional teams, and gain insight into pharmaceutical operations while developing scalable solutions.

Qualifications

  • Experience querying structured data and SQL proficiency is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience building dashboards in Power BI, including DAX calculations and data modeling.
  • Experience with Python or R for data manipulation and automation.
  • Ability to integrate data from multiple internal and external sources.
  • Self-directed with ability to deliver solutions to well-defined problems with minimal oversight.
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.

Responsibilities

Summary

The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Over the course of 10–12 weeks, our interns gain industry experience while working alongside our talented team on meaningful projects.

Job description / Project

You’ll build and automate Power BI reporting for our external manufacturing operations, developing dashboards, integrating internal and external data sources and replacing manual processes with scalable solutions. A core part of this role is documenting automated reporting and metric tracking to ensure long‑term adoption.

What you’ll do
  • Learn existing data infrastructure, source systems, and reporting workflows

  • Experience with workflow automation tools (e.g., Power Automate, Smartsheet)
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical, biotech, or manufacturing environments
Qualifications / Eligibility
  • Recent graduate (within 1 year) with a Bachelor of Science degree, or currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related quantitative/analytical field
  • Must be available to work full‑time, 40 hours a week
  • Must be currently enrolled as a full‑time student at an accredited U.S. based university or college and enrolled in the fall term after the internship, or have graduated within 1 year of the start of the program
  • Must be able to relocate if necessary and work at the designated site for the duration of the internship for on‑site, hybrid roles
