Covenant House International is offering a paid internship in the Finance team, based in the NYC metro area with hybrid work. The role provides hands-on experience across ERP systems, process documentation, and finance operations while supporting the intranet build and SOP development.
You will gain practical skills in nonprofit finance, project coordination, and internal controls within a federated, multi-site organization and be able to contribute to cross-site finance projects and training
Since 1972, Covenant House has served and advocated for youth and young families experiencing homelessness, human trafficking, and exploitation. Our overarching goal is to end homelessness among youth and young families by helping them achieve housing stability, heal from trauma, tap into their innate resilience, and hone their interests and skills to forge new pathways to independence. This work is carried out across Covenant House sites in 34 cities in the US, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.
Under the guidance and supervision of CHI’s AVP of Grants Management, the intern will gain hands‑on experience working within a dynamic nonprofit finance team that provides financial oversight across 18 sites in a federated model. This is an excellent opportunity for a student interested in nonprofit finance, operations, or systems to contribute to meaningful organizational projects while developing professional skills in a collaborative environment.
Hybrid (NYC metropolitan area). While this position is designed as a primarily remote role, intern is expected to work in person at our Manhattan office at least 1-2 times per month. Candidates outside of the NYC area may be considered provided they can travel to headquarters in Manhattan as needed.
Paid internship — $17/hour. Will also provide any documentation needed for academic credits, if the intern’s academic institution permits paid internships.
3 months, starting September 2026 or earlier, and with the potential for extending through another academic semester (completion of an internship does not guarantee a job placement).
At least 15 hours per week but no more than 20 hours per week during traditional business hours (9am-5pm EST).
Our critical mission demands that we have all voices at the table. A team of diverse people, perspectives, and experiences is smarter, stronger, and more effective for our young people. At Covenant House, every team member is valued, respected, heard, and supported, and we welcome honest and courageous self‑reflection on any aspects of our work that are based on biased or outdated viewpoints. We deliberately create opportunities for our staff to grow and thrive.
