Job summary

Envelop Group's Quality Air Service (QAS) internship program offers hands-on exposure to HVAC and building automation, combining mentoring with field work in Indianapolis, IN. The paid internship runs May–August 2027, with up to 40 hours per week for at least 10 weeks.

As a Technician Intern, you will assist with installations, programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of BAS. Strong communication, GPA ≥3.0, and enrollment in Engineering or HVAC are required.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Engineering or HVAC with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical design documents (duct layouts, piping schematics, riser diagrams) is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist experienced Technicians with installations, programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of building automation systems.
• Learn to use software and hardware tools, following blueprints or engineering specs to diagnose and repair equipment.
• Support on-site installation and repairs by gathering materials and coordinating tasks.

Envelop Group's internship program offers a combination of mentoring, learning activities, and field work designed to give broad exposure to the inner workings of HVAC and Building Automation. This paid internship is located in Indianapolis, IN with flexible start and end dates from May to August 2027. Interns must be available to work up to 40 hours per week, for at least 10 weeks.

What you'll do as a Technician Intern:

• Assist experienced Controls Technicians with installations, programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of building automation systems.
• Learn how to use cutting edge software and technology, along with a variety of hand-tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications, to help diagnose and repair equipment.
• Learn to understand requirements for on-site installation and repairs by gathering materials and synchronizing on-site work.
• Learn how to monitor system performance, analyze data, and identify areas for improvement or optimization.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Engineering or HVAC Technical Program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical design documents (duct layouts, piping schematics, riser diagrams) is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Preference will be given to local candidates; no relocation or housing stipend is available for this position.
• Must possess valid US work authorization and not require future employment visa sponsorship from Envelop Group.

Physical Demands:

• Continually enforce safety to the highest standards and maintain security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear and conditions.
• Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• May be required to satisfy requirements imposed by specific projects, customers, or company needs.
• Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet.
• Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.
