Job summary

Controlled Environmental Systems (CES), part of the Envelop Group, delivers advanced HVAC airflow control solutions for laboratories, healthcare, and manufacturing. The Controls Technician will test, program, commission, and service air control systems in critical environments, including a large pharmaceutical site in downtown Indianapolis.

This role requires strong HVAC and control-system skills and a commitment to customer excellence.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience installing and/or servicing electronic control or HVAC equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of temperature controls and HVAC systems sequence and applications.
  • Experience programming or troubleshooting Building Automation System platforms; Tridium preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints and electrical diagrams.
  • Strong communication with customers and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Perform startup, checkout, and troubleshooting for airflow control systems.
  • Read drawings, specifications, and data to determine balancing and project approaches.
  • Install, wire, and checkout fume hood controls.
  • Coordinate with contractors to maintain budget and schedule.
  • Complete on-site documentation and customer training.
  • Ensure safety and asset accountability on site.
  • Attend manufacturer training to service lab control systems.

Job description

As part of the Envelop Group collective of companies, Controlled Environmental Systems (CES) delivers advanced engineering and manufacturing solutions for critical building environments, providing high-quality products and services across sectors such as research, healthcare, and manufacturing; and specializing in critical airflow, air filtration, and HVAC systems.

The Controls Technician is responsible for testing, programming, commissioning, and servicing advanced HVAC airflow control systems used in critical environments including research laboratories, healthcare facilities, pharmaceutical spaces, and clean rooms. This role requires a strong technical background in HVAC and control systems, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to delivering an exceptional experience to our customers.

The hours for this role are 11pm – 7am located at a large pharmaceutical customer in downtown Indianapolis.

What You\'ll Do
  • Perform job start up, checkout, and troubleshooting for new and existing airflow control & air monitoring systems.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and equipment performance data to determine proper balancing techniques and project management approaches.
  • Install, wire, & checkout of fume hood controls.
  • Perform wiring, terminations, checkouts, and assist in system start-ups utilizing commissioning tools.
  • Oversee installation contractors and work with the construction team to ensure that the job budget/schedule is maintained or exceeded.
  • Maintainaccurateproject documentation, including installation records, as-built drawings, programming files, and commissioning reports. Complete paperwork on time including time sheets, expense reports, posting of work orders, on-site documentation and project status reports.
  • Participate in job site meetings and final walk through on assigned jobs and complete all job closeout documentation and customer training.
  • Continually enforce safety to the highest standards and maintain security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear and conditions.
  • Attend training courses for multiple manufacturers to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to work on the lab control & air monitoring systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities
  • High school diploma or state-recognized GED; Mechanical, electrical, or related technical degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience installing and/or servicing electronic control or HVAC equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of temperature controls and HVAC systems sequence and applications.
  • Programming, hardware, and troubleshootingexperiencewith one or more Building Automation System platforms; Tridium preferred.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, self-motivation, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team environmentand communicate clearly with customers, mechanical contractors, subcontractors, and fellow employees.
  • Provenanalytical skills and attention to detail with ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, manuals, electrical diagrams, and control sequences.
  • Demonstrated experience in the integration of low-voltage building sub-systems using various industry protocols, such as BACnet, N2, Modbus, etc. preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook).
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to satisfy requirements imposed by specific projects, customers, or company.
  • Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet.
  • Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
