Job summary

Envelop Group in the United States is seeking a Critical Environments Controls Technician to test, program, commission, and service advanced HVAC airflow control systems in critical environments such as laboratories and healthcare facilities.

You will read drawings, wire and test equipment, balance airflow, and maintain detailed commissioning documentation while collaborating with customers, contractors, and internal teams. A safety-minded professional with a technical background is desired.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience installing and servicing electronic control or HVAC equipment.
• High school diploma or GED; mechanical/electrical/HVAC degree preferred.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
• Strong teamwork and communication with customers, contractors, and internal teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform start-up, checkout, commissioning, and troubleshooting of critical environment airflow control systems and HVAC equipment.
• Support commissioning activities for laboratories, healthcare facilities, clean rooms, and pharmaceutical environments.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, and equipment performance data.
• Perform wiring, terminations, device verification, and functional testing utilizing commissioning tools and manufacturer software platforms.
• Diagnose, test, adjust, and balance system components to achieve airflow relationships and pressurization.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including installation records and commissioning reports.
• Participate in job site meetings, owner training, and final commissioning activities.
• Continually enforce safety standards and asset accountability.
• Attend training courses for multiple manufacturers to work on lab control & air monitoring systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The Critical Environments Controls Technician is responsible for testing, programming, commissioning, and servicing advanced HVAC airflow control systems used in critical environments including research laboratories, healthcare facilities, pharmaceutical spaces, and clean rooms. This role supports specialized systems designed to maintain precise airflow relationships, pressurization, temperature, humidity, and environmental safety requirements.

What you'll do:

• Perform start-up, checkout, commissioning, and troubleshooting of critical environment airflow control systems and HVAC equipment.
• Support commissioning activities for specialized spaces such as laboratories, healthcare facilities, clean rooms, and pharmaceutical environments where environmental stability and occupant safety are critical.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, and equipment performance data to support system installation and commissioning activities.
• Perform wiring, terminations, device verification, and functional testing utilizing commissioning tools and manufacturer software platforms.
• Diagnose, test, adjust, and balance system components to achieve required airflow relationships, room pressurization, and overall system performance.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including installation records, as-built drawings, programming files, and commissioning reports.
• Participate in job site meetings, project walkthroughs, owner training, and final commissioning activities on assigned projects.
• Continually enforce safety to the highest standards and maintain security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear and conditions.
• Attend training courses for multiple manufacturers to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to work on the lab control & air monitoring systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:

• High school diploma or state-recognized GED; Mechanical, electrical, HVAC or related technical degree preferred.
• 1+ years of experience installing and servicing electronic control or HVAC equipment preferred.
• Basic understanding of HVAC systems, airflow, temperature controls, and mechanical equipment operation.
• Mechanical aptitude with a strong desire to learn specialized critical environment systems and advanced airflow control technologies.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
• Demonstrated aptitude for troubleshooting and problem-solving with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work in a team environment and communicate clearly with customers, contractors, subcontractors, and internal team members.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook).

Physical Demands:

• Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• May be required to satisfy requirements imposed by specific projects, customers, or company.
• Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet.
• Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
