Job summary

Manson Construction Co. is seeking an Engineering Intern to support the Project Management Team across West Coast jobsite locations.

You will assist with onsite engineering, quality control, surveying, and construction management tasks, with extensive travel and exposure to dredging or marine construction environments. The role requires pursuing a degree in Civil, Construction Management, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing an accredited degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Report daily activities of a construction or yard operations crew.
  • Track quantities and compare as-built work to estimates.
  • Develop formwork and falsework details for projects.
  • Coordinate with project foremen and superintendents to write work procedures.
  • Assist with project element plans and hazard analyses; support CAD analyses.

Summary

This position is a part of our Project Management Team for our various jobsite locations throughout the West Coast United States. Engineer Interns provide onsite engineering and technical support, quality control, construction management assistance, land surveys, and help maintain a safe working environment. Dredging or marine construction experience is preferred. Travel is extensive.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Field Engineer for Construction Assignments
  • Reporting of daily activities of a construction or yard operations crew
  • Cost and implementation comparison of as-built construction activities to the as-bid estimates
  • Quantity tracking
  • Formwork and falsework details
  • Coordinate with project foremen and superintendents to write work procedures for activities
  • Development of project work element plans and hazard analysis
  • Computer Aided Drafting for analysis of equipment capabilities, depiction of work methods, access, and sequencing
  • Estimating Assignments
Quantity takeoffs
  • Reading job specific specifications and standard specifications
  • Subcontractor and supplier coordination and quote comparisons
  • Estimate cost analysis and detail entry
  • Project scheduling
  • Form and falsework detailing
  • Equipment analysis
  • Ensures compliance with Manson's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
  • Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment
  • Additional duties may be assigned
Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing degrees in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related degree from a four-year nationally accredited college or university.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License, and acceptable driving record
  • Experience with AutoCAD is preferred

Interns will work both in the office and in the field on project sites.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, for field assignments the employee is frequently exposed to adverse weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Employee must be able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, respirators, etc.). The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers, to grasp, grip, handle, or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to navigate stairs, ladders and gangways, board, work on and disembark floating vessels and structures.
