Job summary

Manson Construction Co. is seeking an Engineering Intern to join the Project Management Team for field assignments on West Coast projects. Interns will provide onsite engineering support, quality control, and construction management assistance across multiple job sites.

The role offers exposure to dredging and marine construction, with extensive travel and a blend of office and field work. Current students pursuing Civil Engineering or related degrees will gain practical experience in CAD, site

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing degrees in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related degree from a four-year nationally accredited college or university.
• Must have a valid Driver's License, and acceptable driving record
• Experience with AutoCAD is preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide onsite engineering and technical support for field operations
• Assist with quantity takeoffs, cost comparisons, and as-built vs. bid estimates
• Coordinate with foremen and superintendents to develop work procedures and hazard analyses
• Perform CAD analyses for equipment capabilities, work methods, access, and sequencing

Job description

This position is a part of our Project Management Team for our various jobsite locations throughout the West Coast United States. Engineer Interns provide onsite engineering and technical support, quality control, construction management assistance, land surveys, and help maintain a safe working environment. Dredging or marine construction experience is preferred. Travel is extensive.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Field Engineer for Construction Assignments

• Reporting of daily activities of a construction or yard operations crew
• Cost and implementation comparison of as-built construction activities to the as-bid estimates
• Quantity tracking
• Formwork and falsework details
• Coordinate with project foremen and superintendents to write work procedures for activities
• Development of project work element plans and hazard analysis
• Computer Aided Drafting for analysis of equipment capabilities, depiction of work methods, access, and sequencing

Quantity takeoffs

• Reading job specific specifications and standard specifications
• Subcontractor and supplier coordination and quote comparisons
• Estimate cost analysis and detail entry
• Form and falsework detailing
• Equipment analysis
• Ensures compliance with Manson's Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
• Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment
• Additional duties may be assigned

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, for field assignments the employee is frequently exposed to adverse weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Employee must be able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, respirators, etc.). The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers, to grasp, grip, handle, or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, use stairs, ladders, and step stools and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to navigate stairs, ladders and gangways, board, work on and disembark floating vessels and structures.
